Dating aside I noticed if I take care of my apperance I get treated a lot more respectfully.

Last year at a post grad class the teacher mentioned you should'nt " Judge a book by it's cover." He and 90 percent of the class were tatooed , pierced, dyed hair, and had looked like they raided a "Hot Topic" shipment.
I said " Actually most people put a lot of thought into thier apperance, So I disagree." That did'nt make me popular.
I think people SHOULD be allowed to dress the way they want but then you can't throw a fit when somene makes a first impression based on that. Goth, Nerd,Slut, Homo, there are consequences.
I think my plastic Star Trek phaser would make a great belt accessory. However I know there would be a social price to pay. Especially since I'm 35. So I just wear it around the house.
I guess I couls wear it to a Fantasy convention but those people look like weirdos . . .
I just have different priorities in life besides being a clotheshorse, and am another person who hardly notices a guy's shoes except on rare occasions.

Heh. I look like a weirdo often enough.
If I decide to dress up, 'tis usually in
a style not of this day and age. But hell,
I don't really care about the negative
impressions, as the positive ones seem
to outweigh them.

Yeah, I got this at the local leather store,

To me, it's just seductive and playful, like blindfolding for example, it's all about healthy self expression.

Every guy has a bad boy side.

Are mohawks in? I'm thinking about getting a mohawk. Not an outrageous one, just basically buzzing the sides.

Mohawks never seem to go out of style, but you kinda have to have good bone structure to pull it off.

I mean, Danny de Vito would not look so good in a mohawk. Johnny Depp , however, yes...

Danny DaVito? One needs some hair
on top, to manage a mohawk!

Oh yeah, I didn't think of that...

OK then, a mohawk wouldn't look so good on Adam Sandler. :P

Well, OK, if you look like your avatar, I guess a mohawk would look pretty cool. :P

As a woman in New York City, unfortunately it's different than most places: fashion is extra important and everyone in the city is a member of the fashion police. These are the girl's "rules" I've picked up on to be considered attractive and respected by the NYC society. You must:

1) always be manicured and pedicured (To me it's stupid and a huge waste of money, but guys checking out girls ALWAYS check out the toes almost before looking at the face!) I do my own so at least I'm putting some effort into it, but all the other women can totally tell.
2) be perfectly made up and coiffed
3) dress up, and wear the most uncomfortable 4-inch heels you can find. Even though my work has no dress code, I've discovered that the city does, and jeans are only acceptable on Fridays... and stylish heels are very important (probably mostly to show off stupid pedicures)
4) be essentially totally hairless except for your head hair and heavily tweezed eyebrows (this includes your arms, your legs from toe to butt, a "Brazilian" bikini wax, any and every stray hair on your face, and any hair anywhere else). This part is more of a pain for me than the shoes that make my feet bleed and I don't do it all.
5) be in good shape.

I don't condone these rules and I'm not very good at following them, mostly because they are absurd, a huge waste of money, and not just uncomfortable but often downright painful. I've probably missed some and didn't mention the basics which are the beginning of this thread.
