I think the idea is probably to, rather than trying to act like a badass, be badass at a lot of things. Be someone who's got a lot of talents and a lot of game, to have the kind of confidence you need to come off like a badass and not a cheesed*** you need to have it be real and be someone who's accomplished a heck of a lot. You can still be cocky without it but at that rate it has to be self-resigned and humbled to where people can see that you aren't pathetically out of touch with who you are or anything like that.

You'll be a laughing stock.

No offense or anything, but there are "badasses" and badass tryhards.

Didn't you get put in jail for throwing sauce at some b***h? what happened with that?

Quoted for truth.

I've spent my entire life being idealistic about it. I still am to a certain regard, but from my experience just being yourself _doesn't_ work. I'm 23 years old, and I've never even been on a _date_, and not from lack of desire. I just have no idea how to go about such a thing, and the only women who've made passes at me were shallow types I didn't particularly like. I also do things like sticking up for women's rights, and fairness, and I get branded as a chauvinist more often than not for my efforts. (Apparently, because I hate seeing people treat women as objects, that means I see women as objects. Go figure.) But anyhow... I've paid attention. I've paid a lot of attention, and from my experience, even the women who say otherwise are more attracted to brutish 'bad-ass' men than sensitive, egalitarian ones. I've lost count of how many times I've found a woman attractive and engaged her in conversation, only to have some other guy rudely interrupt us and act like a jerk, only to have the woman stop talking to me and focus all of her attention on him.

It would be awesome if just being yourself were feasible in most cases, but honestly, the cases where it will work, from my experience, are extremely rare. If one is willing to make the sacrifices being a 'bad-ass' entails in order to gain the 'payoff' of a romantic relationship, sometimes it needs to be done, sad as that sounds.

Women don't want a badass per se, they want someone with confidence. Trouble is, those traits seem to go hand in hand.

Ok I've noticed that there are a couple of people on here now who either want to be badasses or have suddenly become them. What is wrong with you people? Why on earth would you want to become something you're not naturally? You are lying to yourselves and everyone else and being foolish and, to my knowledge, not many people like liars or suffer fools gladly. I know I don't that's for sure.

You're very correct Fiz. I don't understand why someone would lie to others if this someone actually wants to get to know another someone really well. Why cover up what you are to someone else who won't like you for the way you are.

Too right. I can't understand how anyone would think that arrogance and aggression for its own sake would be an attractive thing. It's a very simplistic idea that shows little understanding of how women think. I reckon that if you have the confidence and competence without the attitude then you attract more people and better people.

Not everyone is like that. OK yes I can fully understand you feeling contempt for many people, but there are also many people who are genuinely nice and do not require that you wear a big mask. The challenge for people like us is to learn how to distinguish them, and then work on surrounding ourselves with the genuinely nice people (just a few is enough to satisfy me) while avoiding interaction with the contemptible people.

You know, I just got to thinking... if some guy does become famous for inventing something like that which is convincing enough to throw people (convincing enough to actually break the stigma on stuff like that), he's really going to need a lot of bodyguards. When you think about it, what your talking about is pretty close to the complete destruction of sexual bargaining power in the relationship world.

If (s)he's really smart then (s)he'll invent totally kickarse robot bodyguards first. Bodyguards with no sense of self-preservation whatsoever.

Wll, being you'd probably have to build that sense of self-preservation in in the first place that would probably be the easier recourse anyway. That or hey, just hire a lot of ex-KGB or mafia security.

I got no problems with that. I would never dream of playing games with our own, I would just be myself.

Interesting, there seems to be a lot of subcultures in America more so then in the UK were there are mainly Chavs and ordinary middle-class folk, the rest are a minority Goths, Pikys, and Yordies.

For Aspies in the UK anyway, I recommend that they don’t pigeon-hole themselves into any niche group by dressing like them. Generally it is more important to be accepted by the majority of the population in what you do and what you wear. This is probably much easier to do in the UK then in America because of the lack of subcultures.

In the UK they generally dress better then Americans, so it might help a little if an American Aspie dress a little better generally.

Some days of the week I guess it would be ok to dress anyway you like, and just let go and be yourself.
