Wonder if its really worth continuing
It definitely is, imho (and I'm amazed to see myself write this, considering that I've spent most of my life lonely and depressed). You will either get used to your situation and make the best of it, like I'm doing nowadays, or you will meet someone special. Often when you least expect it*. But that can only happen if you keep going.
*Fun anecdote: When I started an apprenticeship there was another apprentice, a cute and bubbly girl who liked to talk to me for some strange reason. She came over to my desk during lunch break and we chatted about job-related things, our instructor and co-workers, things like that. Well, she chatted a lot more than I did

I thought it was just because we were the only two people in our age group and trained for the same job, and I would never have dared to talk to her if she hadn't attached herself to me like that.
A year later she hooked up with a guy who went to the same vocational school, and he told me that she told him she did have a crush on me back then

Apparently, she really liked my blue eyes. I never realized that. What a missed opportunity. My point is, these opportunities arise out of the blue whenever you meet new people, at a new place of work or a support group or wherever. Even if you're as shy and awkward and aspie-ish as I was and still am. All you need to do is wait and look out for such a chance.
