I think he's lucky to have you as a girlfriend, I think the reason why he doing this is because he want to give you the attention you deserve but I think he felts that he can't give you that attention because of the stress

I would just simply say that you will try your best to accept him as he is.
Again, keep it short and strip out any confusing emotional talk.
Truth is, words will mean little to him, but your actions over time will.
