Get over the pickup line approach because its the sort of thing that you could be sending to several girls at the same time hoping one of them will reply and this is easy to notice.

Try to find something interesting on their profile and ask them about it/mention it on your message to her.

Believe it or not most of my messages have been replied and they were basically asking them something about their profile/similar. Trouble is in keeping the conversation going...

Yea this works.

Also, if you're not drop dead handsome, better to go picturelss on okc.

I had far better results without pics.

I never reply to profiles without pictures. Not because I need to see if they're attractive or not but because I don't want to talk to someone who can see me when I can't see them. If you have a decent well lit photo of yourself in which you don't look like an ax-murderer I'd say use it. Besides what's the point of wasting time chatting up a girl who won't like how you look in person.
Also pick-up lines are gross and we can spot them from a million miles away. Just ask a question that shows you've read her profile (that will make you really stand out) and include a nice salutation.
Then again as an autistic person I don't/can't play games so I prefer a straight forward approach, maybe a NT girl would feel differently.

My experience matters more than your opinion (no offense) i tried it both ways, and no pics profile had better results.

I do show my photo once they ask for it but at least they give me chance to talk with them and show my other assets before that (not the looks).

My *experience* in ignoring picture-less profiles is equally as valid thank you very much. Your experience isn't universal. What works best for you is't necessarily what works best for everyone. Maybe in digital picture form you give off the aforementioned ax-murder vibe and the op doesn't, who knows. Providing opinion based on experience and personal knowledge is a perfectly valid thing to do on a message board.
When I had no picture up the response was dismal (nil) which is irrelevant because gender is a factor but since experience matters so much more than informed opinion I thought I'd share.

I posted plenty of pics on WP, go ask the female members here around if I look like an axe murderer and see how wrong your assumption is, some will
tell you i am hot even. Lol

It's not a matter of axe murder vibe bs, fact is that girls receive a lot of messages on okc so they would skip all regular looking guys and just choose to reply to the most "eye-catching" (the cream) ones.

So for the regular guys like us, we have a better chance to not rely on pics.

I clearly wasn't commenting on your actual appearance. I was making a point that you aren't every male and every male is not you. I should have used a different example so that is was clear how much I don't care what you look like.
How could you possibly know what all girls do when not all girls do the same things.Your personal experience with the specific women you've talked to doesn't enable you to state 'facts' about all women without being wrong. The fact is women *on average* receive more messages than men, that's where the facts end, the rest is speculation.
You've had better chances without pictures. That's an undisputed fact. But it's not proof that all "average" looking men will have the same experience as you. Just as my experience isn't proof that any women he messages would respond like me.
Such is the nature of anecdote.

You have an opinion based on your experience, that's fine.
I have an different opinion based on my experience, which is equally fine.

I agree with everyone who said to avoid pick-up lines. I can't speak for other women but when I was an cupid I automatically ignored any messages that said, "I'd like to get to you know you better," or "I liked your profile, let's chat." Keep in mind women tend to get a lot more messages than men and have a lot more to pick and choose from when deciding who to respond to. Why should she respond to a generic message that she probably gets 5 times a day that doesn't even include any indication you read her profile and that tells her nothing about you? Also, when you leave such a simple message you are placing the burden on her to start the conversation, again decreasing the chance of her responding.

Instead, say a little bit about yourself; mention what you have in common and why you'd like to get to know her better. Make it clear that you read her profile by mentioning what was in it that caught your eye. Don't write a book, but include enough info so that she gets a sense of who you are and can determine for herself if she'd like to get to you you better.
