Have you ever heard of statutory rape? You're 17 and she's 2 and 1/2 years younger than you. So, she's 14 1/2!! Do yourself a favor. Hang out or whatever with females that are 16 or older. This is a disaster waiting to happen. I won't go into detail. Talk to your parents or research this topic yourself.

The OP said she was 15 (OP could be 17 1/2 ya know :) ). And it's indeed a grey area but also it depends on the laws of a country and what exactly happens between them.

yep, where im from 14 is legal.

but thats besides the point, personally i wouldnt take it as a date until/unless she made it clear. Maybe after enough getting to know each other and no definite yes on the dating id ask her out formally

But you wrote under location: can't find it on a map! The gals must really grow up fast where you're from. I have a niece who's just under 15. If an 18 year old was "hanging-out" with her, he'd get lumped up pretty bad by her male relatives.

Hello,
I was at this one youth group and homeschooling got brought up. Since I was homeschooled I mentioned I was. This chick asked if I was and I said yeah. So she said we should hang out, which she did. Long story short, she sends me her phone number, then since we were meeting at her place, her address. She is 2 1/2 years younger than me , I am 17 (going to be 18 in August) and she is 15. (Btw, we went to lunch and hung out at the park). She said she wanted to hang out some more some time. So I guess my question is, was she asking me out, or more just as a friendship? Thanks

I don't think there's a lot of difference between hanging out and dating. A more relevent question is, do you get much privacy from others when you're together? That will tell you what level you're on. I guess it would be "proper" dating if you agreed to go for a meal together or something similar, or if you did any of the other standard NT mainstream mating game rituals.

If you want to know if you're in with her or not, in that romantic way, well it sounds like you've got a pretty good chance. She obviously likes you and she's going out on a limb to be with you. Whether or not she ends up as your girlfriend, well that could turn on the smallest event. The potential's there if you want it. Just one thing.......it all looks so easy, I'm suspicious. Some people say that any love you find on Easy Street has got to be a dream. Go for it, if you want to, but watch your back.

Yeah, RightGalaxy, if that happened here it wouldn't be too frowned upon (too much) but there will be people that will bust the dude in LOL. Anyways, I digress. It was more a hanging out thing than a "you know.." thing anyway.

OP, unless things have changed for you you are at the hanging out stage, and should review the posts in this thread to determine a moral and conscious decision that's right for both of you :)

In my State the legal age is 16. I was just wondering for future reference if it was something that could bloom, or if it was just friends type thing. For now we will just hang out.

Careful.........some girls might start doing odd things if you try to keep it platonic for too long, if you don't talk about it to them. Suddenly vanishing from your life for a while, dangling another guy under your nose, that sort of thing. I mean, she seems to be offering you a lot at the moment, and folks only have so much patience.

I agree, you have to be swift.

I think sometimes you can borrow a bit of time by talking it over with them......at least then they know you're aware of the velocity problem. But I suppose if you don't want to get on with it and they do, they're entitled to start looking somewhere else.

Here is the thing, when should you discuss the issue? First, second, fifth, twentieth time you get together? I have only hung out with her once, so I think it is a tad early for now. But when should you talk about it? I don't want to be too upfront, yet to vague.

Hard to know. She sounds quite able to make suggestions about what you do together anyway, so I guess she won't just be sitting around wondering why, if things are slow......she can say let's do this or that. As long as things seem to be developing, there would be no need to talk. If you seem to have dropped into a routine where you seem halfway towards a relationship but without any more movement that way, that would probably be a good time to talk.

I've went to a date with my gf around... two or three times so far. The rest have been hanging out. The difference is that the first time is more formal, there is an specific activity to be carried out, and there is usually some travel involved. Hanging out is a lot more casual, generally at college, although in the spur of the moment and with enough free time it may end up in an instant date anyway.

Hanging out is fine, it will let you two know each other without pressure, and then you may say "I know this place five minutes from here" and do something more special together. I actually prefer hanging out to dating.

When did the topic of statuory rape came around anyway?I don't remember Ark saying anything about sex.

It's kind of a thin line, in my opinion. It always felt like I was hanging out, but there was affection (touching, holding hands, kissing). That was the difference. I wouldn't be affectionate with someone I was only friends with.

I agree.

I would advise to take things slowly! Don't think ahead of yourself.
