Have you considered Skype or something? I mean yes the person could still be lying but getting a good look at how they talk + their facial expressions while they talk MAY help?
Not to mention it might make them talk more freely, and when a person talks more freely, then you get a better idea of who they are.
I don't know though. Never been in a relationship, on a date, etc. so my experience in such matters is null and void of any meaningful advice.
But I will say this. Do NOT settle for less than what you want AND need. I've seen a lot of people settle for less and it ends badly.
Be as picky as you want since you'll be wanting to spend the rest of your life with the guy I'm assuming due to your beliefs.
Speaking of your beliefs, I suppose you could try praying and see where that gets you. I'm not religious but I will never rule out the possibility of a higher power.
