If your bringing up religion when dating online, you might be doing it wrong.
*They* bring it up.
A lot of folks aren't aware of the corner of the world you come from... in his area, Islam is all religion, all politics, everything. The concept of not having a religion at all is so utterly incomprehensible it doesn't register at all. Does not compute. (More RAM needed!)
Just make it easier for the poor girls and call yourself an infidel.

You're not the only one Boo. I have met plenty of people who have no idea of what an atheist or an agnostic is.
In my experience, it has less to do with intelligence, and much, much more to do with the culture that they are raised in, and to a lesser extent, on how curious they are as a person.
I would go so far to say that in parts of the world where religion is or has primiarly been the major influence, that reactions like theirs are to be expected.
It's hard enough for people in such a position to accept that you have a faith that is different from theirs.
But to say that you do not know, or that you have no faith, it tends to bring out very strong reactions in them, or confusion, or disbelief.
Unless you plan on moving anytime soon, you're going to have to get used to it, no matter how crazy it drives you, and find a way of dealing with it.
P.s. I've found that when it comes to "dealing with it" - discussing the subject logically gets me nowhere, I generally have to bullsh*t my way through it.
