What might partly explain this apparent paradox is many more females than males partnering up with each other. So two females become each other's girlfriends and a man (who didn't stand out) is still left without one. Given how much more open females seem to homosexual experimentation, that's an explanation I might buy. :)

Plus there are those of us who are quite happy to remain single forever and ever and ever. As long as I have my pets and my footy club, that's all the companionship I need.
