This sums up most of what I wanted to say perfectly. This makes things easier, because there is one thing I will say.

It's nothing personal when a guy isolates to deal with some stress or a problem. More guys than you think will do this. Whether he is an Aspie or not doesn't matter. We all have our mancaves. I don't like being asked questions myself when I need the time to myself to calm down. and I don't want my girlfriend expecting me to open up when this happens. In this time period, It's on me to make the next move and come out when I am ready to do so. If the girlfriend were to be mad at me for doing this, I will likely stay away for a longer period of time.
I'm not sure what the deal is with the boyfriend, so maybe you should ask him rather than make this assumption that I am right as well.

You liked him for two years so there must be something pretty special about this guy or you would have chased him off long ago.
Likely several pretty special things. since it's obvious by your writing that you're no moron, you've probably done a pretty damn good job of seeing his strong points and weak points and are a very good judge of what kind of man he is. He's not playing you.
Your post makes all of this clear. Your heart obviously knows this too.

Don't worry about what it "looks" like that's your brain talking, and don't worry about what people might sneer about. "I can't believe she took him back!" /swoon!

...You know what?

You're exactly right. I'm going to go for it. Thank you everyone for responding.

Much obliged. Anything I can do to keep ignorance and presumption to a minimum, I will, I just hope I see the karmic benefits eventually.

Er...no, I don't smoke more, because I haven't smoked at all in decades. Not since getting completely bored with it and deciding that the world's much more interesting when it's not fuzzy. Lots of people don't smoke. I'd venture to say that most don't smoke, especially after college.

I don't see what you're seeing as sexist, either. If a woman behaved like that to a guy, I'd be saying the same things.

OP: Good luck, but if he does it again, don't take him back again. Find someone who's thinking more about you.

I didn't say you smoke, I was writing statistically. Also, you just said you were once a smoker so getting off your high horse would be much appreciated. Your world may have seemed 'fuzzy' but what makes you think you can interpret for yourself the effects of a drug on someone else's brain? The hardships of life don't end after college for all but the very most fortunate among us, and many of us lack the time and funding to even go to college. Still more people here can't handle the crowds, I'm one of them and it hurts like hell. Obviously smoking is a personal choice, but A: quite a lot of people smoke at ANY age, in any demographic, so get over it and B: Your statements were sexist because men expressing their feelings, or rather their socially enforced inability to express said feelings does not constitute "putting a boot through a woman's life" and I don't really think you'd ever act so dramatically face-to-face with a member of your own gender unless you were picking a fight. I really can't see hardly anybody doing that. Furthermore I can't for the life of me understand why you would be so brash as to downplay the extremely hard-earned wisdom of autism-spectrum people on a site established specifically for us.

Have some respect, I hope this isn't how you view your family, because out here in reality, in some sense at least, we actually ARE your family.

I feel I should add that you have no right whatsoever to heap negativity upon the decisions of this poor woman. She told you directly that they're absolutely capable of being happy together. Are you TRYING to raise the divorce rate?! Have you considered for even a single second that they might some day have children? Children on the Autism spectrum?

This subforum exists to help autistic individuals and their partners in navigating highly complex relationships, the likes of which tarantella64 has clearly never experienced.

I will be leaving this thread open to ensure that the precise opposite is not what occurs.

Almost all of these "shall I take him/her back? " posts are just seeking encouraging responses.
Their mind is usually already made up and there is nothing anybody say would hardly ever change it.

Encouraging responses make the world go 'round. Love is the most encouraging response there is.
