If feminism is a huge part of her identity, I would say she probably has an irrational and unhealthy amount of anger towards men stemming from unresolved daddy issues. I stay as far away as I can from those people.

If she has her own identity apart from feminism, but uses it to fight for equal rights and equal respect for all (not both) genders, that would be a much more healthy approach. This type I might befriend or have a relationship with, supposing she's got a nice personality and our chemistry is right.

So...

Unsecure feminazis who hate the world, and has to be all up in my face about it? - No way.

A nice person who is secure in her own identity, and wants to help others because she thinks everyone should be able to live their lives on the same conditions, regardless of sex, ethnicity, socio/economic status, and so on? - Sure, I'll develop some kind of relathinship with her if it feels righ.

As for marriage? - I don't belive in marriage, and if you're a feminist, I don't think you should either. Of course it might be useful if you have/want kids and the place you live has laws and rules making it favorable for your particular living conditions.
Amen to that and now a word from Girl Does rant on Radical Feminism

On a serious note, I took a lot of women/gender classes in college and I like to debate gender issues, so yeah I like feminists even the out there ones. As long as said woman was a thinker and not just a blind ideological follower I'd have no problem. Oh, and as my opening line indicates they'd have to have a sense of humor as well.

I have no objection to feminism per se. I'm irritated by the views of "radical feminism." The views of the "womens libbers" in the 1970s resonated with me. I'm known many feminists who are feminine, and allow me to employ the social graces.

Image Well? If your going to date a feminist I suppose its best to stay about 50 feet away from her at all times.

This is interesting, because I have the same experience. Feminists like to confront and challenge me on women's issues. And, they like to oppose me and what I am doing, just to demonstrate their empowerment. Referencing my post above, do you happen to have the same lack of facial expression I have? If so, the feminists may be imagining all sort of fiction on your face. And, they may be giving you all sorts of non-verbal challenges that, from their perspective, you ignore. Ignoring someone is one of the greatest forms of invalidation. Ignoring a bully can result in a livid vendetta. Regretfully, feminism has created a general license for women to proactively and invasively engage in witch hunts for sexist males. So, the phenomena of the self-appointed women's issue cop is a real problem for autistic men - at least, some of us. So, does that fit your experience?

Being a feminist would not be a deal breaker for me.

Had a feminist chat/study friend in college, she had the best jokes. Didn't hit on her because I was out of her league in the looks department. At times I think she was messing with me.

What can turn a man into a feminist is having daughters.

What about a non-feminist who wants to castrate male babies?

You're kidding right? The answer is obvious.
The thread is about feminists tho or so-called self identified feminists.

Any decent human being should be a feminist in the egalitarian meaning.

The term feminist tho is often used for (and by) those who are active in defending women's rights and following-up issues that harm women, sometimes it would develop bitter toward men, think about it: Reading and following up about rape cases, about every domestic violence case out there, about every violation against women in the world, attending conferences where you might find all varieties of feminists (including radicals), I am ok with all that too, not saying to censor anything, but all this exposure, influence by others and the cultist-like following up these issues on daily basis make some of them having some bitterness toward the male gender.

I get along well with some activist-feminist women and they're cool with men, in fact very cool with men, weirdly tho those in particular all turn out to be homosexuals. In my experience, heterosexual active-feminists are the ones who tend to be likely way more bitter and paranoid (and some even hating) toward the male gender, I dunno why.

Same is true for guys in MRAs, or even guys who get obsessed into PUA literature, a lot of them end up hating on women.

Well, the term has gained quite a bad reputation in the USA since the 1950s, and many women here who call themselves "feminists" constantly try to tear down traditional values, especially concerning marriage, sex, and children. I'm no Puritan, but I do believe in absolute morality...and many "feminists" value arbitrary equality over anything moral.

I agree with Michael517; having daughters, granddaughters, sisters, nieces etc., can make one a feminist.

MRAs =/= feminists.

MRAs = (possibly ultra) radical feminists.

let's be honest now.

This thread is pretty much the equivalent of shouting, "Fellow Caucasian males of our great Rhodesia, who amongst us would marry a filthy n****r?" on a Saturday night in Zimbabwe. Pffft.

Serious response - no. I don't believe marriage is ever a good idea for anyone, anywhere.

I so wish WP had upvote capability. Thanks for the gonzo snark, I needed a laugh!

I used to identify as a feminist, but the word has become so loaded that most people seem to equate it with female supremacism. People also seem to think "equality" means "androgynous" rather than "equally valuable." I believe men and women have overlapping yet largely complementary traits of equal value. At this point I'm more comfortable calling myself a humanist.

BTW how did the vote go?

My family is comprised mostly of women, and I'm no radical feminist.

yes, and radical muslims call themselves just muslims--does that mean they represent the majority of muslims? most reasonable people understand the difference between a movement and a radical splinter group of said movement.

i would say a good 95-97% of the feminists i have encountered IRL as well as online (and i have encountered a lot of them in both arenas) are reasonable people who just want equality for women. extreme radical man-hating women's-supremacy-seeking feminists are a tiny minority of the population that self-identify as feminists, in my experience.

You wouldn't know who are the man-haters/bitters, many wouldn't show that side to you because you're a woman.

Radical muslims were winning elections, just saying.
