I think dating a stranger comes from wanting what the eyes see. They pick someone who looks physically attractive and work from there.

I prefer your method.

Trouble with that also is that a lot of people just sit at home, so if they are not dating they are not meeting anyone. Especially now with everyone having busy lives, people don't have that much to time go out and purse hobbies and social groups etc. When you have a career, it can be almost impossible.

On another note, I think women prefer to start a relationship with someone they know well, but they seem to get excited to occasionally flirt with an attractive stranger. There is some evolutionary theory to this too.
