Do dating threads even work?

I got my 2nd & current girlfriend by making LOTs of post here but I'm unique with what I like & what I have to offer.

14.6k posts does certainly qualify as a lot of posts! I see how that would work out, someone notices you and likes you for your viewpoints etc. and you start talking etc.

I'm almost tempted to post something in the dating thread still though, I just don't see it doing much good other than embarrassing me. I actually have done that a few times, only to delete the post later.

^^^ do it. You have nothing to lose and maybe plenty to gain.


I met my bf thru a forum. I loved his posts. From the moment I arrived (he was a member before me) I noticed him. His rapier wit and dry n sarcastic sense of humour would have me in stitches. One day I saw something particularly hilarious and I messaged him to say how much I enjoyed his posts.
We're now together ...and he still cracks me up. He's my best friend and same time, my mortal enemy because we rip the piss out of each other constantly

The moral of the story is, twofold, you have to reach out before anyone will ever reach back, and yes, there may be knockbacks but, if you're online use whatever means necessary. Fora included.

I put up a dating post, then had it taken down a few weeks later because I started to not like what it said and I couldn't edit it....

I think that the main thing that makes it hard to meet people here is that there's such a disparity in terms of location, age, and personality. It's extremely unlikely to find someone who matches in any one of those areas, much less all three. I have had a few conversations on here that I imagine might have led to dates, if not for the geographic differences. Also, the singles list is littered with almost all men, which creates another disparity.

It all depends on geographical luck.

It doesn't matter as much if your willing to relocate like I did. I moved from Louisiana to Vermont to be with my girlfriend.

Yeah I was about to say, geography in the States isn't quite that big of a deal unless maybe you live on opposite coasts. I could see it being more tricky dating someone from a different country though, immigration is a difficult process.

I am not willing to travel for a potential date that may or may not find me attractive in person.

Nor I want anyone to travel for me (Someone claimed she's willing to do it) for the same reason.

Period.
