You are a theist/religious, I believe. You believe in meaning in life.
I'm a hardcore atheist and don't.

All life is blindly reproducing, or trying to.
Everything else is irrelevant, in the end.
We are irrelevant.

Which kind of proves that there is no direct link between feeling sexual attraction and a desire for sexual intercourse. The link instead is with a desire to start the courtship ritual, which when successful, will end with reproduction, but things can also end at any time before that.

Courtship rituals are simply a means to an end.
Those that don't reproduce, don't add genetic material to the gene pool and their line is irrelevant from thereon.
Once you are gone, you are gone.

You are born,
You do "stuff",
And then you die.
What a charming, pointless life system. lol

I don’t care if the ultimate end of sex is reproduction. I still enjoy it.

The question asked here is not "why?" but "what?". The first warm day of the year, when a teenage boy sees his female classmates come to school wearing gym shorts instead of sweat pants, he will feel a physical urge that he can never really suppress although he will spend most of the rest of his life under a standing order not to act on it.

His female counterparts will also feel urges although not usually triggered by seeing the boys. However the matter of acting on this urge is different in their case so that rarely becomes an issue in the same way.

Intellectualizing this won't change human behavior in the least.

@blazingstar it's possible you've never felt a purely physical urge for intimate contact with a male counterpart, but I can assure you many women sometimes do, even though they may never act on it.

Some people get sexually aroused by things like shoes and rubber clothing. How does all the discussion so far account for the whole fetish thing? Human sexuality is a lot wilder, weirder and wackier than what animals seem to get up to.

Please explain this!!:

Irrelevant, unnecessary aberrant sexual behaviour as a result of the "blind" evolutionary process.

Of course, but prolonged courtship rituals are highly enjoyable. Much more enjoyable than having sex five or ten minutes.

If you just skip over to the end of the courtship ritual by having sex as soon as possible, you miss out on all the fun and the most enjoyable stuff. That's why a three-year-long infatuation is much better than five minutes of sex, and besides, the end of every courtship ritual is reproduction.

I think it does. Sexual attraction could be to anything. It's personal.

Besides, it's the smell of estrus that arouses many animals, not visual stuff like for most humans.

I quite frankly don't agree with this, especially not the "prolonged" part. Yes, five or ten minutes of perfunctory intercourse between two people with a history of participating in hook-up culture could be quite unexciting, but not necessarily outright bad. But if two people have a strong physical attraction to each other, an hour-long naked make-out session, in which the goal is to intensify sexual arousal rather than to simply relieve it, it not something you should postpone just because you believe there are certain rules that must be followed. The candle-lit dinner can come after, when both people can give full attention to the food and wine.

Can we want to be enveloped by desirable men too, or is it just women? Personally I'm not interested in women. :P

For me sexual attraction is sensory. If I think the person would "feel good" or "smell good" or dare I say "taste good" 8O then I will likely be attracted to them. I think our bodies pick up on this subconsciously because of pheromones but even if you see a person on TV without pheromones, it's easy to have a sensory response. This response isn't always the same as the emotional response of having a crush on someone. I can have a crush without much sexual attraction, and I can have sexual attraction without much crush. When I get a double whammy (both at once) it's perfect!

I hope not! You're married! :P I don't desire to get into every man's pants either. I can be sexually attracted to someone I don't know at all, but of course that doesn't mean I would sleep with them. If I know the person and don't respect them, I think that would kill any hint of attraction.

Now the romance concept seems to be left out of this discussion , sometimes it is the very essence where sexual attraction can come from ..animal sniff animal parts , cows “haver “ to other cows . BullS to heifers .
All this doesn’t necessarily account for asexual persons , which apparently doesn’t necessarily physical interaction with others ..
won’t someone stand up for romance ? In regards to these types of attractions .?

Wrong. Being a Quaker does not require a theist pov nor does it require the insistence that life has purpose. It could mean that, but in this case, it doesn't.

I actually agree with you. Life is meaningless and we are just like bugs reproducing and then fouling our environment.

Huh? What makes you think that. I actually have an active, long and diverse sexual history. Just because I don't share the details on WP, doesn't mean I haven't had that experience.

Good grief! Makes me wonder what else people think about me. :D
