Ok, the guy that responded so bluntly and rudely sounded like he was just being a bully, trying to stop something that really wasn't there to begin with. He wanted to be the big tough bouncer type and push you down, trying to keep you seperated from having a good time in the car and actually having some attention shown to you. Like ou wanted to actually strike up a conversation and because you have a penis, he just had to interject with something cold and harsh. Too bad if you wanted to talk in the car, apparently anything you were going to say was "subconsciously" sexual you didn't REALLY want to talk about books :P. Ok with all sarcasm intended in that lil post I also wanted to say that "ah so you're one of those types of girls" doesn't mean anything so I don't understand why he thought that meant "i want to start a relationship with you". People say that to me all the time referring to different aspects of conversation and I don't think they want to jump my bones.

If you like books and the guy making the comment
knows that you like books, i could take it as a
joke. "oh, close man, to bad she`s taken"
not saying its a good joke, more of a not very
funny comment but no harm ment.

If you didnt know him he was butting in to a
conversation he had little to do with, unless
someone asked him to guard over this girl,
which would be a little weird. He might have
tried to make a funny, depends on the tone
and setting of him when he said it, i dont know

I have heard this before from men in religious circles. I remember in Hawaii when a girl had been hanging around drinking with a group of men for a few weeks and then she went to Maui, a couple of months later the guys saw her in a group of folks camping in a State Park near to where they would gather to drink and socialize. The guy that had slept with her before went over to say hello and the men from the camping group said that she was a Christianist now, and she was spoken for, and to leave her alone that she wasn't into that sort of life any more.

Just the words "she is spoken for" flashed me back to that. It's a testosterone thing for Christianist men to do, since they are the head of and speak for their women.

and irritating as all hell.

This is a Christian thing, is it? Actually it's just a guy thing. "Christianist" btw is not a word.

I'd have to agree, OP mentioned that he knew she was taken - so the guy wasn't lying. Also yeah, it would depend how close this guy was with her boyfriend as a friend. If he was an acquaintance and nothing more, he may have either been acting on his own laurels or possibly wanted better status with her man as a friend - particularly if her boyfriend is a well connected guy.

I think in most cases if your going to talk to a girl who's taken your playing with fire and when you get those kinds of responses it goes with the territory. Part of this as well that I'd mention to the OP, is that if you could get her away from her man, that may not be a good thing in and of itself - you'd be doing him a favor and then getting burned by the next guy who wanted to try that on her while you were with her, not that its an absolute thing - she could be unhappy with him - but generally speaking if you can pull a girl out of a working relationship its not a good sign. Stick with the singles, its still hit and miss in terms of finding a girl with integrity but it sucks when the only outcome that even temporarily suites you doesn't speak well for her.
