It helps that people like Shau and meems and nessa are the ones keeping the conversation civil, without the usual suspects turning it into poop. :P

I have to disagree with the people who have popped up and said things like "being nice is basic human decency" or "the vast majority of people are nice" because they just aren't these days. You do a good deed, and it is automatically assumed you want something from the other person. Plus with peer pressure running rampant, and how wild everything else has gotten, there's been an "every man for himself" attitude applied to just about everything, so this pretty much explains why most people can't even give you the time of day.

And yeah, I can agree that in today's world, kindness should be rewarded, but it is only expected, and that's a scary thing to think about, especially given the fact that just a few decades ago, character mattered more than how selfish you were and how much money you had.

Worse, if you ARE nice to someone, the automatic assumption may also be mistrust because so many people don't believe people CAN be nice anymore... or just don't know what to do in return to niceness - it seems bizarre and somehow "wrong"...

To quote Uncle Globey - "The world is quite a f****d up place."

Yes, this is how threads should be imo - they can diverge off into other related subjects as long as it remains interesting to people and they keep talking and also more people are likely to join in then too.

Real life conversations don't stay on one topic - they move through lots of different topics - they evolve.

All the more reason to keep being nice anyway, even if you are in the minority.

I found the Spongebob thing confusing as well - what did Nessa do?

It's already in the thread - I'm just not taking the bait again.

You're talking in riddles

I don't know what on earth you're talking about bait in connection with

I think it's you who often tries to take threads off in your own preferred direction and you don't like it that a person stood up to you when you were incredibly rude when I just happened to get talking to someone on a thread when no one else was even posting, saying I'd made the thread 'no fun'

You now keep sniping away as you still appear to be disgruntled about it

I think you see yourself as some kind of master of ceremonies who is central to any thread or something and you don't like the limelight not being on you

Well you've successfully got it back onto yourself now so dance away

Enough. You know perfectly well what this is all about - you've laughed at me about it several times in this thread alone.

Since I'm being pushed to dredge it up, I shall. This thread: Sell Yourself! Page 4
I asked nessa if we could go back to the OP's cool original topic and she took it SUPER personal, screaming "YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!! !" etc. as well as demanding a public apology for making the horrible request of going back on topic. Thread already derailed, I made a few OT posts myself (not 3 pages worth, but hey, everyone has a few) and she immediately started ranting about how if I'm a horrible hypocrite for doing the same (1-2 vs 10-20 doesn't matter.)

So personal that even 6 weeks later she's still hurling insults. As soon as I posted in here around page 3, she started yelping "AHA! SEE!! ! He's not a nice guy!! ! OSTRACIZE HIM!!" and a little later, "It's my thread I can say whatever I want!!" and later "See how awesome it is when threads go any direction they want and aren't redirected by Maxie!!"

So tell me this isn't both personal and totally out of hand... I'd like it to stop but I'm not going to play the "bow to me" show, as I've done nothing wrong. All it does it empower people like that to do it even more.

So there it all is. Now comes the inevitable DARVO flip-around to make ME seem like the villain.

I will leave people to make their own minds up after reading the way you spoke about me and my posts on that 'Sell Yourself' thread and your conduct on this thread.

And please link to where exactly on this thread I have said, "AHA! SEE!! ! He's not a nice guy!! ! OSTRACIZE HIM!!",
"It's my thread I can say whatever I want!!"
and "See how awesome it is when threads go any direction they want and aren't redirected by Maxie!!"

Interpreting what a person says in a particular way is not the same as the person saying it and I did not say the above lines.

I feel bullied by you and would like you to stop.

Enough.

Both of you know better than this.

Can't deal with it properly right now but in the meantime this deserves a lock
