Is really "attractive looking" an individualistic opinion?

3 women from different times, very different beauties

The first one is definitely the most attractive one (to me that is). That's not only because she is the only one that has long hair, but it is her whole appearance.

the last one was definitely a hottie. that body and her can make modeling felt like a dream.

I think so too Boo, but Marilyn Monroe would be considered way to fat according to the model industry today 8O

Twiggy is the third picture, she was the first skinny model, more the childlike boygirl an new ideal for the time, the Kate Moss of the sixties/seventies. I believe she also started the idealisation of skinny in society.

It's strange how the ideal body for women keep changing, earlier the ideal was thin but soft, then skinny, then fit in the 80's, then heroin chich thin and so it continues...and men complain that they have it tough 8O

Hopefully one day healthy in different sizes will be ideal for men and women...

Not for me. She is ordinary at best. The middle one is only sexy, not attractive (there is a difference).

The ideal body for men in media is even harder to achieve than any ideal body for women portrayed by the media.

You would have to work out like hell + super hard specific diet + fat burning + genes + taking loads of supplements, in order to get it.

And btw, the super bony-skinny catwalk model type? those are picked by the gay designers for practical reasons, the fashion industry is largely controlled by women and homo men, it's not at all the type that heterosexual men find attractive. The "Glamour models" aren't that bony like the ones you see in catwalk shows, google them and compare.

Are the men starving themselves to death? I'm talking about an ideal that is killing young girls.

They do starve themselves by never eating fat and carbo and by taking supplements, so yeah. So not just you are the poor ones boohoo :p.

And the supplement business is SO HUGE, most guys attending the gym take them.

I see Boo, but you have never been a teenage girl so you don't understand the social pressure of being one. You might think that teenage girls were hard on boys, but that is nothing compared on hard they are on themselves and other girls. And as I remember teenage boys can be right bastards as well...

Men can also get eating disorders, I know in the model world, the male ideal is boyish slim with little definition.
Eating disorders is something different than from taking a diet a little too far.

I think healthy is a nice ideal that should be sought after. It is sick that a healthy body can be considered ugly and a sick one as an ideal...

And you have never been a teenage boy who sees girls drooling over muscled and six-packed men, while you are fat or skinny.

So he starts doing unhealthy gym practices, and taking steroids and such.

So it's a moot point.

Boys image struggles is something that you women so ignore btw because it's never talked about in the media, and it's something that guys keep it secret from the girls btw, a boyfriend with an 'ideal body' usually doesn't reveal to his girlfriend/partner the stuff he's taking in the gym's locker, a lot of time girls think this hot guy with six packs got his body naturally because they never see what he takes behind the doors. He wouldn't come to them and tell them, "oh, I got that by taking growth hormones and testosterone shots"

As a guy, I see what they take there, and the 'secret recipes' they recommend to other guys; and it's so insanely common.

I never said that boys don't have it difficult, I said that boys also get eating disorders.

You can not blame me for s**t that was said by girls that you knew growing up, I never said such things or had such ideals. My bf doesn't fit any ideal body, neither do I and who the f**k cares? I was busy for years trying to fit in and starved myself, it f***s up your head completly and your health and you miss out so much on life. I hate it because I know what it does to you.

At least there's a great awareness about the women's image issues and the ideal body thing (which again, is not the catwalk model type (those are picked by gay designers), but more of the "glamour mode" type which can be very hard to achieve as well).

So men who read a bit and watch some tv shows (It's everywhere) know women image issues, many of us know about voluntary vomiting and self starving and the caused eating disorders and psychological stress. Many men are aware of those issues, and from awareness comes understanding and empathy.

But how many women know what boys and men do to get the ideal male body as portrayed in the media? None.

Women know nothing about it, and every time I tell them how common testosterone, growth hormones, steroids shots, steroided shakes are commonly consumed by guys and the diet they go through, they get surprised and shocked and almost find it hard to believe; some women would even so aggressively deny it, as if them can know better than a guy.
I am not exaggerating if I say that 99% of women know NOTHING about it.

But seriously, you women know nothing about this matter.

i had a few friends who I know have been taking steroids...one friend openly admited it....and I know to what length men go to keep fit. One was training just about every possible thing that is to keep that six pack there, we'd discuss it at length.

but yeah, i'm from the anti-universe, so that's predictable with me.

Why is there always a competition of who has it worse or gets treated worse? Why not listen to other people's stories without comparing?
I think there are a lot of boys and men on this forum that have suffered a lot , but also a lot of girls and women that have had many difficulties and the same is true for the world outside WP.
