As with many matters, I do think a lot of anti-feminist stuff is disavowed/redirected class anger. A while back, someone in PPR posted a (now deleted) thread, starting from a video in which a serious-voiced, bitterly sarcastic man describes a woman going about her day, unnapreciative of all the men have done and all the while having the temerity to 'use' the work of the men she apparently despises. Whilst this particular woman was, of course a figment of the angry man's imagination, the arguments were class ones re-framed in terms of gender rancour, and anger over feminism (whatever that means...), so as to make them more palatable. Because only losers even think about class, no?

The woman was a suburban, middle class, professional, white collar sort. All the men she cared nothing for - in fact, despised - were doing working class, manual, blue collar Joe Schmoe jobs (of course, all women everywhere either do well paid white collar fluff jobs, or spend all day trying to avoid chipping their carefully manicured nails, and are so lacking in nous it's a wonder they can tie their shoelaces). With minimal changes, you could easily have made it about a man caring nothing for the other men who make their lives easier. Ah, but then there'd be no gender aspect to refract the issue through, and it would very obviously be about class anger and resentment. And again, that's for pinko commies.

Of course, that such clear class anger gets twisted into the more 'acceptable' misogyny further necessitates feminism and considerations of class power.

If shes not always serious about everything and is able to handle my humor and come up with similar humor back then yeah! If shes always uptight and offended by everything and demands me to sit down using the toilet to pee etc then no! I don't really care as long as it doesn't impede on my life or make me always uncomfortable.

The world can get so boring when people stop doing things after they apologize for doing them. Thank goodness someone is thinking outside the box.

I sort of am a feminist. I don't conform to the male gender stereotype, my 2nd girlfriend was a feminist & my current one doesn't exactly conform to the stereotypical female role. I support equal pay for equal work, Violence Against Women Act, pro-choice & even more pro for birth-control. I 1ce had a membership for Emiliy's List & wish Hilliary Clinton would of won the primaries & became president instead of Obama. I believe both genders & people who don't subscribe to either should have the same rites & privileges so I like feminism in general but don't like feminazis who hate on or put down men.

Why is there so much hatred of feminism amongst men on the spectrum. I think we spectrumites have a lot to learn from feminists!

unfortunately it's not limited to men on the spectrum, it's everywhere--i've heard my share of women bash feminists, too. all of it is baffling to me.

I wrote a little bit about some of the reasons feminists get stereotyped in another thread:

Quote:
I can actually identify with this, as it's a pretty familiar tactic to me, taking the most extreme and unpleasant members of a group and portraying them as if they're representative, like the media always managing to find the craziest fundamentalist at the Tea Party Rally, or the smelliest hippy at the OWS event to interview. Or, ironically enough, like feminists themselves promoting particular subgroups, such as certain internet comment sections or fraternities, as if they're representative of men as a whole. Kinda sucks when they shoe's on the other foot, doesn't it? I get this one pretty regularly on a number of fronts, from Ted Nugent and Alex Jones being held up as typical gun owners to Ayn Rand quoting Objectivists representing all of libertarianism to, yes, neanderthal frat-boys being put forward as the personification of men; it's a bogus tactic, and one I wish more people were aware of when it wasn't being done to them personally.

However, feminism does have it's share of self inflicted wounds, from the obsession with "privilege checking" to the jargon and politically correct scolding to the vicious infighting and backstabbing so rampant on social media, the perpetual outrage and hair trigger taking of offense, the dogma, etc, doesn't present an entirely inviting picture of the movement. Unfortunately, even if the mentioned behaviors are perpetrated by a minority of feminists, the dynamics of the internet make them pervasive enough to become the stereotype, and there are enough actual feminist out there who conform to it that it is an easily reinforced one, as can be seen in the myriad L&D and PPR feminism threads. My own experience certainly reflects this, as I've been dismissed simply because of my race and/or gender, or having used a common word or phrase that has been deemed verboten in feminist circles, and as a white, gender-normative cismale, I don't feel that engaging with the type of feminist who hurls those words around as pejoratives is particularly worth my time, even though I have a better understanding of the underlying issues than most; it's much more likely that others will simply write off the whole bunch.

In short, the movement has a real image problem, one that won't be solved simply by blaming the ignorance of outside observers for their failure to understand all the nuances and schisms of the various schools, especially when feminists themselves often end up at loggerheads over minutia and such.

Here are some of the sources I've used to form my opinions on feminism, in addition to my own personal experiences with feminists here and elsewhere:

It's helpful to remember that 'feminism' =/= 'woman' or even the entirety of women's rights, but unfortunately they all tend to get lumped together. I highlighted a particular article in my quoted links that contains a study showing that people also tend to dislike activists generally, that has some useful insights as to why feminism is often held in such bad odor.

It depends what you mean by feminists. Woman who advocate for equal rights I think are quite admirable and desirable but equal rights goes both ways you have to show equal respect for men which benefits us greatly as from the scientific perspective woman are the superior sex as they?re actually valuable for the species progression at a far greater ratio than men.
