If the problem is people think you're boring, then get interesting!

Find hobbies, see the world, try new things, learn about world news, learn about a variety of different stuff that can be discussed, go to clubs and meet new people, go to the gym to get rid of some of your pent up feelings, go to work functions, get a part time job, just get lots of hobbies.

The world is huge. There is so much to do in it. I don't know what New York has but its probably everything, get a dog to take for a walk, go fishing, theres 1,000,000 hobies you could try to become more interesting. Finding a woman won't make you interesting, so if thats what you think get it out of your head now.

If you want something to talk about with girlfriends, get hobbies and make friends first. There is no Quick fix to your situation, like most situations.

I agree. If you spend all your time looking for a companion, you won't have anything keeping you two together.

Me, too. I think it's a lovely fantasy, though, and I wish it was true.

Personally, I find the notion of a soul mate to be too intense. Soul mate = clingy 'other half'.

I am not a half, dammit. I am a whole person.

Ok... I'm just catching up with this thread now (damn time zones :P). Just had to stop to say, TeaEarlGreyHot, I think I love you. :P
The phrase 'other half' makes me so angry. :D

The point isnt to say everyone needs a partner, its to explain why there are people such as me that feel a void inside when we're alone...

I don't know... I think a better explanation might be to look at the whole aspie thing. I know when I was a child I always had problems making friends. They rejected me because I was different and weird. I'd look at groups of friends and wonder where I was going so wrong and desperately try to do anything to make them like me. I guess maybe you're still seeking that validation.

Sorry if I've got this all wrong btw... not sure how good my people analysis is.

And I need to be able to talk to my partner about politics and he has to be able to intelligently and insightfully participate. I've been in relationships where it's like talking to a wall. Even when we disagree, it's a great discussion that we both enjoy. This really proves that there's enough diverse preferences that women have for men they're looking for. We don't all want the same thing. :)

I partially agree with you. Part of why you see a lot of single moms and "alpha male" douchebaggery is because things like easy credit, welfare, and social services have made the "provider" cheap to get.

Women have lover-provider complex going, basically two contradictory instinctual desires. Some go one way or the other to different degrees. The socio-technological environment advantaged men on the lover side of that spectrum.

Needless to say if I was interested in dating, I would never date a single mother. Why should a guy pay for someone else's f****?

So, I can safely cross you off the list, then? Good to know!

I don't want anyone who's arrogant, close-minded, uncultured, bigoted or an idiot in general.

That would be a valid theory, if it weren't for the fact that in general I didn't have much trouble making friends when I was young. Granted, I made a lot of enemies too, but I was never all alone from a perspective of friends for most of my life. It's only the emptiness I feel when love is concerned...

I'm quite fond of the concept of love partners being akin to two stars, affected by each other's gravity and light, and often crossing orbits, yet equal and still on their own course in life.
