Must depend on where you are. Around here, the needle doesn't move: the guys are there to lift. (Young guys. But people of all ages are at the gym working out, here.)

In the grittier US cities where I lived, the guys actively resent women walking into the weights area. They figure it's their turf and they don't want girls there. It's a significant barrier to women's fitness and I've often been the only woman in the weights room, because f**k that hostility. The guys will sometimes get passive-aggressive in response, banging the weights around, refusing to remove 50-lb plates from machines like they're supposed to when they're done, then pretending they don't know what you're talking about when you say, "Would you please put your plates away so I can use this machine."

Actually that's funny, Boo, I'd have expected to've seen stuff like what you're talking about. I must've in high school...but no, even then, when I ran track and the coach told us go work out, the football boys just pretended the girls weren't there or grunted a lot more and took off. It's the creepy yoga guys who always want to position your body. And the bike guys are kind of mansplaining a**holes, that's true. But in the gym...huh, most of the trainers are women now, so you get these middle-aged dudes hiring them, and the dynamic is kinda icky. The women have to play along unless the guys do something overtly inappropriate.

At my gym, there are those young to middle age women - who are always very fit and don't need extra training - keep hiring this same trainer because he's too hot lol. You see the same ones flirting him on his fb (and he's married!); me and my friend once caught him on the beach sunbathing with one of his client-gals; part of the program?

I once had a job that left me no time to work-out.

It was one of the primary reasons I quit that hellhole.

To fitness noobs: best of luck, and do it to get healthy, not to "look good." People who exercise to "look good" never stick with it.

Looking good and being healthy aren't necessarily mutually exclusive factors. A lot of people at the gym I go to look good simply because they're healthy.

True, but I've known several people that starting exercising simply because they wanted to be sexy.

When they didn't end up looking like models, they quit after the first few weeks.

Wanting to look good is fine, but I doubt that, in of itself, it will be sufficient motivation for beginners.

What motivates people to keep exercising is the results and the health benefits, but what gets them started is that they want to beef up to look like Vin Diesel, or lose weight to look like Mila Kunis. This is not necessarily a bad thing as long as you keep your expectations realistic and realize that Rome wasn't built in one day.

I originally wanted to look like Frank Zane. Regardless of how muscular I became, this was impossible, due to the fact that I have a heavy frame, a slow metabolism, and the fact that Frank Zane was on small dosages of various types of anabolic steroids. Nevertheless, I discovered that looking like--and becoming just as strong as a heavyweight boxer was well within my reach. Next to the strength and muscle gain, my diet and exercise has given me an excellent heartrate, perfect blood pressure, and at the most 2-3 headaches every year.

I'm accustomed to working with lazy people, so I'm sure my perspective is skewed.

I'm thrilled with any motivation people can dredge-up.

Don't waste your time with silly fat burners either, make sure you get a decent vitamin - Optimen is good.

Niacin and L-arginine before a workout, preferably 500mg of Niacin and 1000mg of L-arginine, much cheaper than a Nitric Oxide drink.

Try Selenium, Cacao Powder and Biotin for anti aging.

Cacao Powder tastes lovely in shakes and is 40 times more of an anti-oxidant over blueberries.

Selenium and Biotin are good for anti-aging, Optimen pretty much has it all in though.

Magnesium and Zinc for good bones, a decent ZMA product will do you good but Cacao powder is a good source of both.

Get a dip in the Nile, flatworms are good for weight control.

Allow some tolerance. Aim to be between 1,200 and 1,500 calories per day, rather than being all nazi about staying at 1,300 calories. :) As long as you consume more energy than you eat, you'll still lose weight.

You can find all of this in egg yolks. Eating eggs is way better than spending hundreds of dollars on a lot of different supplements every month.

^ Yay I love eggs. Can I eat more than 2 a day? I don't eat any meat (except fish) or dairy products. My cholesterol levels are excellent too.

Ever heard of the Mediterranean diet?

http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/guide ... anean-diet

It's....exactly what I eat, but looking at it, It doesn't look much weight-friendly tho. O.o and it's opposite of the kenogenic diet in many ways.

*** Yogurt, of course, by yogurt here they mean the Mediterranean /middle-eastern sour cheese-like yogurt (raw), and not the fruity sweet fruity yogurts that you buy it in packed cups.

It's junk. High carbs don't work for many people, including myself. Anything over 200 carbs and I get really bloated and start having digestive issues.

Egg yolks are bad for you, egg whites are good, I'd hardly suggested egg yolks to a young girl trying to cut plus they won't have the same anti oxidizing or anti aging properties.

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2012/08august/Pa ... oking.aspx

First you promote steroids, now egg yolks, your heart is probably worse than most of the fat women you criticise. Steroids are a dangerous path, they will lead to many many problems if you take them.
