I'm not mocking anything. It's life. Most people DONT have a great romantic valentines day. I've had one, once in my whole almost 50 years. Years ago, and I didn't even end up marrying that boy. Mine started out very bad because I found out this morning that my husband has lost his job. Yay! Great! Yeah, I'm married and have somebody but he doesn't have a f*****g job now. There are no jobs for me in this town, so I depend on him. A job is pretty f*****g important in day to day living. Oh, and guess what else? I have herpes. I didn't want to say it here because somebody else made a thread about it and it's coincidental, but I do. I found that out this morning too.

So happy goddamned valentines day. You got nobody? Well it could be worse. You could have somebody, and four offspring they produced which you have to support and they got no job and you got herpes! I'd trade places with you in a f*****g heartbeat!

I'm sorry about your situation. But it's nothing to do with putting people down for wanting a partner. Every individual has a right to feel upset regardless of their situation.

That day near again, Valenwhine's Day I call it. I was shocked people actually commit suicide this day for not having a partner they can share with.

Some people have to eat Top Ramen noodles or go hungry so their kids can eat or wash their clothes in the tub because they can't afford a laundromat or even go to one and they have no washer and dryer, get over it if you are broke and you still have your food and can still wash your clothes in the machine and can still eat.

I'll be eating small, homemade, rice & bean (no cheese :( ) burritos today.
That's all I've got to eat, possibly till Monday afternoon, though I doubt even the rice will hold out till then...

I really hate not having food or money to get any.

Both my adopted parents are deceased,I'm not celebrating the day with anyone.Im not down about it,but some people are.Especially if you are young and you see your friends with someone,it can be hard.My sympathy to those alone who wish they were with someone.
So to all out there alone and sad,I truly wish that you have the best day that you can.

I am about to lose my 8 years job because my employer is going almost bankrupt, not only that but his reputation is terrible in the market harming my chances to find a job with some former supplier/partner (even tho it's not my fault at all), I am applying for totally different industries because of that, hence why I stopped dating altogether.

My brother's health is going downhill to critical too, not to mention the expenses...

So....?

As you see, just because one is single that dooesn't mean he or she not facing other problems.

I don't have a date, I'll just find my own instead. Last year my 'Valentine' was 2 hours late to the club I always go to, so I stole someone else's Valentine instead.

Furthermore, your happiness doesn't depend on extraneous things such as being single on Valentine's Day. It depends on YOU. The moment you start regulating your own emotions and deciding how you are going to feel, that's the moment your emotions aren't so turbulent and you can embrace happiness much more easily.

I heard an excellent point on the radio this evening about all those who are single on Valentine's day and how to best cope with it: "At least you're not in a bad relationship like so many people are." So obvious, so simple, yet so profound. Seriously. Think about it - I'd waaaaaaay rather be as single as I am right now than be in a bad relationship of any kind.

Exactly! But don't let the basement dwellers hear you say that.

I suppose one of the biggest differences between me and them is that I still get laid pretty much whenever I feel like it, so I don't have that related stress/anxiety/depression hanging over my head ever.

Aaah, yes.. s**t happens - to everyone. It didn't all happen on Valentine's day, but within the last couple weeks my 92yo grandmother had a stroke and has spent a couple weeks in the hospital, my dad had some medical problems and had to go to the hospital by ambulance (he'll be fine.), I had to spend 9h in emerg on wednesday to have an abscessed tonsil sliced open and drained + 7 days off work costing me ~$1000 or so, and I had the fun of attending a meeting w/ social workers yesterday to tell my crazy uncle off so that my grandmother had the guts to say she's not returning to their household and is going to a nursing home instead to get the care she needs. Oh, and I have a sexual harassment complaint filed against me that is completely fabricated by some homophobic a-hole that I have to deal with. Annnnd the company my dad has spent most of his career working for is out of work so he's laid off and has to find work.. he has a great reputation, but it may be a bit harder at his age (60). Not fun stuff, but we all just have to deal with the s**t storm of life when it decides to pour all over our parades

As for the HSV, that can certainly be stressful I understand, but I just wanted to share that when I went to an std clinic for a complete round of tests the CDC nurse told me they don't even bother testing for HSV1/HSV2 anymore because it is so so common and there are no serious health concerns. So, you're far from alone on that.. it's so common that the CDC here doesn't even bother testing for it because they're just like "meh, it's herpes. big deal." Do whatever you do to relax and keep your stress levels down and you may never have to deal with an outbreak so it may never affect your life one iota save for having the knowledge that you carry the virus.

This x infinity.

For the record, I'm single (again/still lol) this Valentine's day and not stressed or depressed about it one bit. I'm actually quite content & kinda happy with it. No relationship stress or BS to deal with. I did deliver and valentine's card and bit of a gag gift to my friend/crush's doorstep, & I do have a couple cute stuffies to deliver to my youngest God daughter and her little brother, but that's the extent of my festivities. No date, no chocolates and flowers or any of the Hallmark Holiday commercial crapola & I'm okay with that. :) I have some paperwork to do, reading to do, a doctors appointment to attend etc & will do whatever I feel like for the rest of the day/evening, which will probably be more of the same, maybe watch a movie I recorded, just generally relax and rest and heal up. If I were at full health I still wouldn't be all "oh, I must go find a date for Valentine's day," because it's just the same as any other day of being single, really. IF I were in a relationship then I'd probably feel compelled to make an effort to have a dinner date or something, but I'm not, so I get to save a hundred bucks or two and that's great. 8)
