So if you are just flirting for fun, how am I supposed to know?

What do you want to know? If you can get up and talk to somebody? I suppose that if I am flirting with somebody it can always lead to other contact, but personally I want to aviod that. As a guy this isn't much of a problem as girls usually don't take initiative to approach. I feel kind of bad if this happens as then I'll need to turn them down some way, usually by not starting a conversation with them.

How am I supposed to know when someone is flirting for fun and when they're flirting because they want to date me?

If you don't want to date them, and you don't want to talk to them, what is it exactly that you expect them to do? It sounds as if you're holding up a massive sign saying, "Talk to me, I'm interested in you" and then saying, "No thanks" when they do so. :?

They keep doing this with you every time they see you. It's the frequency and how "daring" they are in doing it.

Even if I did want to date somebody, I'd be nonverbal as my "dating" procedure is nonbverbal. I use this tactic to select out incompatible NTs. So, approaching and talking to somebody is not something I do to anybody (unless I have some specific issue to talk about). So, in order to get to the next step, they would need to know the second step in the courtship procedure, which few does.

Let me tell you a secret: it's the case of most relationships among Nts too; the more I hear relationship stories there more I am becoming convinced that the male's first move is a myth; it's the woman who often makes the first move, sometimes through signs, the male's first "move" is often done after the woman had made a million move before.

I agree with this. Males can make or not make as many moves as they want, but females choose in the end and drive evolution.

On the note of flirting as some posts have pointed out, while it can be playful, sometimes it gets out of control and people get hurt. Not unlike teasing someone.

Omg, I agree with this topic starter so much. It must be my Polish blood. maybe. idk
All I know is that I'm an insatiable flirt. I actually have to remind myself not to, so as to not confuse or hurt certain people. Especially my STEM professors. I constantly have to restrain myself from showering them in gifts or words because I just ADORE THEM. <3 hahha
I think my flirting is done more out of a desire to spread a sense of well being and pleasure, though. It's a quick, efficient, and non-confrontational way of communication, and it quite often diffuses arguments or ill-wills between individuals. Not sexual flirting. Just friendly kind of sultry flirting. Sexually charged flirting is also fun, but less relaxing imho

^^

Just imagine how confusing that must be for the men! Look at all the threads on here along the lines of "does she like me?" because of a woman engaging in flirtatious behavior with them.

As long as you BOTH know it's all in fun, yes, it *can* be fun, but it may not be the best idea until you are sure that the other person won't take it wrong.

Can't exactly tell if that comment is referring to me or just the broad scale of all us flirts, but either way, I'm very careful not to lead people on. If I get the sense that's happening, or they're confused, I always make sure to illuminate, somehow. I've been led on enough in the past to know to never hurt someone like that. I don't really do conventional flirting, anyways. It's mostly just being overly nice to everyone with a lot of fun attitude involved. I guess it's just my personality, really. haha

Flirting is lame and pointless.

I like flirting, and I like to be flirted with.

Food for thought--if you know what I mean.
