How would you react to his:
Context does matter here. Whan you say "X outcome is better for everyone" when referring to a situation that involves a limited number of people, it's taken to mean "better for everyone involved". The term "eveyone" is not non-specific, here. And if a white lie would be preferrable to an honest rejection to most people, but not to the specific person involved, then that can not be said to be better for everyone.

The context in which I said everyone did not include Closet Genious though.
If you people spent all this energy improving yourselves rather than pedantically pouring over every word looking to score points with proof of example fallacies your love lives would probably be better.
Tell your son to tell her he wishes not to be in her friendzone. Don't be an orbiting blip. Build muscles and be an a**hole.

Honestly chichikov, I think you are the one trying to score points here, and it's really, really obvious.
This backhanded advice thing you've got going, being really condescending to try to win debates, or moral superiority over others. It's a neat tactic, but I ain't buying it, you couldn't be less sincere even if you tried.
Seems to me you're the only one here who(several times now) needs to retort to personal attacks.

Yet, not very long ago, a male got demonized for using a white lie to reject a woman: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=344630

Sorry I didn't feel as invested in an argument over how literal the word "everyone" should be taken in a basic English sentence as you think I should. Truth be told I find these things quite tedious, especially when everyone knows what I meant and only a few people want to nit pick in an attempt to validate their proof by example fallacy (a commonly used fallacy on this site I've noticed, perhaps that stems from the issues currently under discussion and demands more thought).
I heard this line plenty of times. It took me a long time to realize they didn't really mean it since I am so honest and direct. Here's the bottom line: when I met my now wife, I had a VERY busy schedule. Not only was I involved in two different sports, but I worked full time AND was training for a 10Km running race. I still found time to date three days a week!
If someone is really into you, they will make every reasonable attempt to find time to date.
It might be politely saying, "I'm not interested."
It might be the truth.
If I were saying it when I was college-age, it would have been the truth. There was a time when studies and trying to build some kind of framework of mental health consumed absolutely everything I had. There was nothing left for anyone; the only way anyone was going to be part of my life was if they wanted to participate in mental health construction with me. And it WASN'T going to be a romantic relationship.
If I were saying it right now, it would be the truth. Too far down to have anything to offer anyone.
It might be that she's terrified of dating. It might be almost anything.
If he wants to be a friend, be a friend. If not, he can (and should) redirect the time and effort to someone who might be more likely to give him what he's looking for.
What he can't do, is change someone else's mind, regardless of what's running through it.

Nerds be crazy. My wife often threw herself into her books. Have the guy ask if there is anything that he could do to help her create more time. You never know what silly time sink is in the way. Manage those resources and skills. Have him trade some time and effort to free up some time. It could be something solved by something simple like a ride home in stay of taking the bus, or picking up some food.
