There’s nothing wrong with an army guy.....as long as he’s actually in the army.

How will I know if this guy really in the army? I think I talked to a real army guy before I met my ex-boyfriend.

To discover if Army guy is potentially real ..? ask for his MOS, ask his rank and commanding officers name. Ask where his duty station is ? His unit designation, write it all down .Unit and Commanding officers name are ,, are of primary importance . Then google away.........And see is answers are to your satisfaction , Look up duty station. Then finally call to confirm this info. In addition Usually the Local USO . Generally commanding officers are willing to confirm A person under their command at request . This method usually avoids using the persons actual personal identification number .
USO ,can provide contact info.( usually this form of USO info is generally available to family members ,) if U S army. Generally MOS will be series of letters and numbers. He should have little hesitation in rattling this info. off to you.
If you have been in military .These are learned ways a person in the military designates his official position , when dealing with his higher ranking individuals.
Just offering info.

Lots of people are using VPNs nowadays including me for things like file-sharing, concerns over the repeal of Net Neutrality rules, & other privacy & security concerns. However a legit person would be upfront about using a VPN if asked/confronted with their IP being different than their location. If the person comes up with a different reason as to why their IP is different like them traveling to another country or something, that's a major red flag. The rest of your advice Guy Incognito is pretty good & should be used by anyone meeting someone from online.

Thanks-VPNs are common for normal folk, but Gov typically has restrictions on bases and installation to prevent leakage. I've had it come up a few times. I had an investigation that I thought was a proxy because it was coming from OCONUS but the guys use of language was definitely American. I could not put two and two together, until I realized it was an Air Card being used by a Zoomie.

I'm just speaking from my experience, but most of the scammers or ne'er-do-wells that I've come across are lazy with VPNs and Proxies. 419ers usually don't bother, and when they do they almost always use the same free proxy service. The best guy I've seen to date had a VPN connected to a proxy connected to another proxy, but in the end it came down to patience and Aspie focus.

A little off-topic.

I would caveat this with a good number of people who are in the military and trying to pick up women will not be truthful about their MOS or duty assignment. In any given bar outside of a Military base, there is always one guy who claims he is CAG, MARSOC, or a SEAL. Sometimes all three.

Excellent Buckaroo Banzai signature, btw.

If you are only interested in having an internet boyfriend and never meeting the person, you take the chance that the person will be fake whether or not they claim to be in the army. They could be a fake doctor, fake unemployed person, fake guy who works in the grocery store or fake anything. If you only want the relationship to be online be aware of this and just be careful not to fall for them too much. Also don't give them your personal information, your real name, your location, and certainly not any money.

If you want a boyfriend you will actually meet and spend time with, choosing an army person doesn't make much sense. Even if they are really in the army they won't have time to meet you. Chances are they don't live anywhere near you even if they are not on tour. If you want a boyfriend who you really meet, I suggest you only talk to people who live near you, and that you actually meet them in person after a week or two of chatting.

It would be pretty strange if a person in the army couldn't be traceable by social media, news reports from their hometown, service records or other internet searches.

You could always try putting his photo into a "reverse image search" to see what other people have said about him.

Try socialcatfish.com

just write down his name , ask what his rank is and name of commanding officer ? right away that would scare off most imposters ,, Then if wishing to ask where he is stationed or , his army base. google army base number ask for personnel office , after they answer the phone. ask to speak with person he said was his boss ( commanding officer ) ask if this armyguy is working for him. thats all .

A person can do a video chat. That doesn't mean they are necessarily in the army, or that their name is what they say it is, or they are really in the location they say. You need to match the video person's face with information like Jakki said.
