The homeless guy and I were platonic.
It wasn't really a romance even though we were pretty close.
He was gay but I didn't realise at the start.
When I realised I was being used he wouldn't leave.
Then he tried to pretend we had a conjugal relationship (commonlaw) in court.

He used to beat the tar out of me.
He locked the kids out of the house.
He pawned their electronics in a pawn shop.

Then I had a third gay boyfriend for several years.
Also no sex.
He didn't go after my money but he broke my heart.
We're still friends and we actually own a house together (long story).

Then it was the psycho with the identity theft.

I guess I'm just a sitting duck.

When I met my most recent boyfriend I told him on Date 1 I would never, under any circumstance, marry him or live with him. Nearly three years later I'm dealing with the fallout of that.

The abuse sounds really rough, but I can relate. I've experienced some horrific things in my marriage and elsewhere.

Why did you have a fallout with your most recent boyfriend? Does he want to live with you or get married?

It's really hard to talk about but yeah, that was the catalyst.

I can relate to that in a way, too.

Even with getting appropriate help, trauma is not something that one can just get over. (I hate it when people imply that.) It tends to seep over into every aspect of a person's life.

Why would I dig for gold, if I have more of a desire to make my own money?

I wonder if any men would marry women for money?

Yes, they have and do. It's been talked about a page or two ago.

They do, but those men are usually have other labels than "Gold-Digger": boy-toy, gigolo, house dog, kept man, loser, lout, maintenance man, moocher, player, scoundrel, et cetera.

They should go by the same label if the shoe fits. A "gold-digger" is an individual who is actively pursuing someone for money. The other labels indicate a more passive, less predatory role.

"Moocher" or "player" could work, I suppose.

Those labels are not necessarily what they choose; they are usually chosen for them.

By whom?

I don't think that I would refer to someone who was using me for money as a "boy-toy." People don't usually give themselves labels.
