Amen. My parents are liars when they tell me stuff like this. It just gets old, trite, and frayed.

People hate me because of the way I look. Enough said.

Rarely has someone just flat out called my attractive.

And when that does happen, it's usually prompted by me... I call someone else attractive or I talk about how no one calls me attractive.

I'm not a classical handsome man. I have fairly bad acne, overweight, I don't dress stylishly(though I make it a point not to look terrible) and I have terrible posture.

I think I have a good smile though.

Since growing long hair, I think my appearance has improved.

I think my appearance is 'good enough' though to at least have girls consider me, then I can start working my 'charm'.

Only four types of people have ever complimented my looks; my parents, elderly women, my sister's friends, and black women. Oh, and my ex-girlfriend told me I was the handsomest guy she will ever get.

But I've had my physical flaws pointed out to me far more often. So it's all in the eye of the beholder, some think I'm ugly, some think I'm ok, and a few think I'm hawt. I haven't noticed any comments since I've put on a lot of weight.

Rarely have ever heard anyone flat out call me attractive.
But have heard a few compliments on certain physical aspects, like eyes and hair.

I might call my parents compliments just your usual parental confidence boosting but I've recently been noticing a few interested glances from women, apparently this isn't too uncommon an occurrence.

While I was studing in japan a girl said I was bishonen

I had no idea how to take that... still dont.

Note: bishonen roughly translates to beautiful man.

Other that my mother (which obviously doesn't count - a face only a mother could love and all that), and random senile old women in nursing homes who thought I was their grandson, no one has ever complemented my appearance. Hell, even when my own mother "compliments" my appearance its things like "well, you're not that ugly" or the like. In the end though, I just accept that I'm ugly, deal with the cards that I'm dealt, and live my life. There is much more to life than having people think your attractive.

Yes, I get told from time to time. Mostly I just get looks because I am so reserved in public. That has been changing a lot though...being reserved I mean lol. It's a hard thing to see/believe sometimes, but that's what friends/family/girlfriends are for, regardless of their obvious bias.

In HS there was a male acquaintance of mine (I did not consider him a "friend"), who was unattractive yet always received more attention from the females than myself. I could never figure out why. He was overweight, not muscular, not really tall and wore glasses.

I have now figured out why he received more female attention. He was using his eyes and cheek muscles to engage in "flirting" with these females. At the time, I had no idea what flirting was.

I mention this as I now understand that physical appearance is not the only factor in human relationships. When I was younger I had believed that it determined 100% of male/female human interaction (i.e. that females were only interested in the most extremely attractive of potential mating partners).

Several females have referred to my pictures as being either "cute", "adorable", "nice face", "average" or "not ugly." I classify these as positive comments about my physical appearance.

I have been told on separate occasions that I am good looking (old friend, first person I could empathise with, nice girl, possibly mad), had/have a nice bum (old colleague, again, nice girl, but very hot and knew it, could get anyone she wanted), and sexy (my ex, after we had split up). My self-esteem is low enough to have absorbed all three and not build on them. My best friend and I look similar, and he is always calling me an ugly bugger. I consider it my duty as a honest human to call him a fat bugger.
