Chav= White guys attempting to act all "gangsta" and
all other crap associated with "gangsta"-ness.

This is the Oregon version of the "chav" definition.

Like Dee, I got a lot of looks when I was little
because I am part-Hispanic.

A lot of Hispanic people talked to me
in Spanish, thinking I would reply in Spanish.

So, a chav is a white guy who acts like he is in a gang or that type of mentality but he is not?


My dad has been a biker for close to 40 years, also I knew people nad had friends who were in gangs in the Detroit area when I was in school ~20 or more years ago... The ones who were in these gangs and stuff, whom I knew, did not act like all gangsta persona but rather kept it low....

Um...chavs in Oregon are usually associated
with the booming hip-hop scene in Portland
and anything that has to do with "gangsta"-ness.

However, chavs everywhere else typically
associate themselves with anything
not "gangsta", such as independent movies
or rock music or martial arts.

Returning to thread, it's not only Black Aspies
who have a problem with dating.
Aspies who are mixed-race
could have a problem with dating as well.

No a chav isn't necessarily white. Although it can turn out that way depending on area.

Chavs are kids that stand on street corners, hassling people generally trying to be intimidating, also hassling local business and residents.

The connection with gangsters is only in the sense that some emulate a sort gangster persona. Although they are not smart like organised criminals. Also like other low level thugs the value things that are not of interest to there people or considered poor taste/tacky. They do commit crimes, but most of their crimes does not improve their social standing or wealth. It is mostly destructive stuff out of boredom. They do sometime get exploited by criminals but only because they are impressionable and easy to exploit.
