Then stand up to it. Not by ... "issuing" around, but simply by standing your ground. Media want me to use chemical pills to get size zero. - Eat my happy size 38. Media want me to use physical harming shoes. - Eat my Sneakers. Media want me to ruin my skin and eyes with chemical substances? - Eat my pigment spots. Media want me to waste my time with hairstyling and chemical stuff for hair. Eat my pony and some olive oil. Media want me to use metal-based chemicals to ruin my skin and acid my sweat pores. - Smell my fresh arm-sweat. ^^

I could "issue" about that all day, and yop I am definitely often f**** up by people having that kind of dumb expectations on me, but I wont change it by crying. Simply show that these expectations can be ignored, and should be ignored, by living a happy life without all that sh**.

Size 38 in European sizes is a US size 6, which is slim. I can't imagine anyone being a healthy size zero unless they're under 5ft tall and I know that men aren't attracted to it. I'm not attracted to it.

I wish I could be a 38 again. I'm a 42 at the moment, which would allow me to make 'meaning of life' jokes if only people used the European sizing system in the UK more.

Says the woman who put calenders of male models and post pics of males with unattainable physiques. A media that causes males to take crazy stuff to achieve it and teen males to die from heart attacks.

Schneekugel, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO STAND UP TO ANYTHING LIKE THIS.

I stand up to it, puddingmouse stands up to it, you DON't stand up to it, you just "stand up" to it for yourself but not for humanity.

So spare me the speech, you are the last person on this whole forum who should advise others to stand up to this.

I think Schneekugel was advocating something along the lines of 'be the change you want to see in the world', which is definitely the best place to start. But it's not enough, you have to be critical of your fellow humans because we're a social species.

She has to be critical of *herself* first before being critical of other humans.

Yes I have, because noone is forcing you to become a male top model. There are thousend of other jobs, you dont need to look like a greek halfgod. Then choose one of those. Only because of a calendar hanging at my place, there is no criminal coming to your house, holding a weapon against your head, and forcing you to become to become a poster model, so that you can hang on my place. And thats the only thing you need to look like a calendar mordel. I you want to be one.

If you WANT to look like one, out of fun, without any need,, then blame yourself, for the stuff you decide to WANT, and dont tell others that they would be mindinfluencing aliens, and forcing you to want the stuff you want. Sorry, but how weird do you want to get. My poster DOES NOT HAVE SUPERPOWERS. If you want to look like it, then its because YOU WANT to look like it. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DESICIONS. NOT OTHERS. Me having a Strawberry Yoghurt in my fridge is not forcing you in anyway to do anything related to strawberries.

There are thousend of calendars of hot looking women around me (I work for a construction company.) and none of that ever have forced me to become a topmodel, or to want to become a topmodel. Neither have that calendars magic superpowers, nor have the owners of them So stop that completely nonsense. If you want to be a supermodel, blame yourself for the stuff you want. If you dont want to be a supermodel, because you think the misadvantages are nonsene for you - NOONE is forcing you. Not me, nor my calendar.

If you want to enhance your talk about magic powers, please do that in the religious forum.

It's not about my will, it's not about your will, it's not about jobs.

It's about the millions of immature teens and young misled adults who are falling for that trend.

I am grown up enough to not fall for it, but younger people might fall for it, desperate adults might fall for it, teens and kids will fall for it.

I am talking about its influence on the people as a whole, and you by buying such calenders , by believing in the attraction of such unnatural male bodies and by posting their pics on the internet, you are contributing to this influence and promoting it too.

So you have no right to do "standing up to media" speeches!! You are not better than the media.

Enough of this hypocrisy with you, stop talking to others on high horse on this matter while you are no better.

Yop. Just as young girls might fall into that. What do you think works better to go against that. Whining and blaming in an thread that noone of that reads or simply show in public before thousands of people, that see you, that these rules can be ignored and that there is no need to look like a topmodel as everyday person.

Please stop talking about magic and Voodoo. My calendar is not forcing one single person on the whole world to WANT to become a topmodel.

Oh so you want to tell me what rights I have? What about maybe simply getting some balls, so if a dumb calendar tries to magically tell you again that you wouldnt have the right to be normal, you simply think a bit about it, realize that this is nonsense and then tell exactly that to the magic calendar that is forcing you with a weapon to become a topmodel. I give you an example: WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, TO THINK THAT YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO OR NOT? There are forum rules, and there are public rules, and you ARE NOT them, so dont even dare that you would have a right to tell anybody in the world, what he would be allowed to do, according to the rights YOU give him.

Says the hypocrite, creating a thread how horrible it was that phantasy creature, would force magically poor boys to look like them but telling in the same thread: "Nope. That does not go for Manga. Thats not the same."

Ok, so what problem do you have with that calendar? As far as I understood your post, you were "issuing" because of it, because it would force by dark magic spells poor boys to want to look like those, so that they can as well be on a calendar page. So if you say yourself, that this is silly nonsense and complete BS, then what problem do you have with it? Does it force boys to want to become carrots or dolphins?

In fact, I was convinced by puddingmouse that it also goes for manga somehow.

While you are impossible to be convinced with anything, you are so entitled and delusional with your high horse attitude and you are unable to see farther than your nose, I am done discussing anything with you.

And all your talk about magic and spells is RIDICULOUS, the media influence doesn't work like this, I am talking about effects and influence en mass.

If you were the only one who buys this calender then it would have no effect, but if millions of girls/women are buying them then it encourages the "perfect body" business and when millions of boys see how much this "perfect body" is demanded then they would be influenced and many of them would fall for it, the same way how magazines such as Playboy influenced girls.

The perfect body business is the model business. The only thing that perfect fake bodies on picture are demanded are photographs and calendars. And as already mentioned, my partners has playboys, and FHMs and lots of these. That never demanded of me to become a playboy model. Him watching porn also didnt demand me to become a pornstar. And him watching his female nightelven WoW-creature doing a lapdance, never demanded me to become violet and have long sloppy ears.

I do understand what you mean, but the thing is you simply dont do anything against it, as you pretend. You are whining in forum, which has absolute no effect on anyone. Go out, present your beerbeely and feel normal as a normal being. That does influence people. Go to the beach, remove your T-Shirt and show them that there is nothing wrong about having hair on the chest as a normal being.

People liked to watch sexgods since 40.000 years, Venus of Willensdorf, is a proofe for that. Thats not the problem. The problem is, people thinking that everyone has to look like a non existing phantasy creature, and should not dare to go out of house, if not looking like that. And the best thing, to show people, that there is nothing wrong by going out of house, without being a topmodel, is doing it.

There is only one cause to look like a topmodel, and that is being a topmodel. And the greatest acchievement you can get from that is hanging on a wall, while the husband of the calendar owner meanwhile has sex with the owner of the calendar. So from my oppinion, being a normal husband seems to have more advantage then becoming a topmodel, so that your pic can hang on a wall.

So yes, if you want to hang on my wall, I demand you to be good looking (Which can be acchieved by many more possibilities then simply muscles.). But wouldnt have thought, that anyone was so dumb to use steroides, only to see his picture on a wall. Just as I dont think that anyone wants to take pills for weight loss, to become a pornstar.

I live against it, for instance I don't post bimbo models in bikinis on the internet. And why are you assuming that I am hiding my body from the public? And I have nothing against women liking hairless men, because shaving/trimming doesn't have dangerous health effect.

Venus of Willensdorf was most probably an exaggerated figurative symbol of fertility, it was not what men saw attractive back then.

IT has the for me dangerous effect, that if lots of people do that as well, then other normal people think, that its no longer normal to be normal. As long as you think its ok to look normal as a normal person, you dont even have a thought about using medication, to look unnormal. Do you think I have any issues about using diet pills to acchieve the "oh so perfect extreme size zero" when I dont even care for propper shaving of my leghairs? ^^ If someone offers me that, I simply laugh.

Quote:

Wow, first you are telling me about what rights I have in this world, and then you are telling archaeological scientists about what they have to believe that Venus of Willensdorf was used for and that you have a time machine, you used for asking people that died decades of years ago, about what they saw attractive. Cool. Did they believe that, before or afterwards, you told them, what rights they have to believe in?

[quote]

lol I don't want to be hanged on your wall - no thanks. [/quoet] But you think other people could feel demanded by me to become topmodels, so that I can use them as calendar pics on my wall? I know that there are boys and men, that are trying to become hercules, because of them thinking that they would get lots of girls by that. The thing is, that thats simply not true. Most of the guys having such muscles, simply have the time to acchieve that muscles, BECAUSE of them having NO girlfriend.

Its simpy a try to run away from their reality. There sure will be a cause, causing them to have problems with girls and relationships. Because elseway, they wouldnt have problems with that. But doing crunches wont change that cause. For me its simply a lying upon yourself, because either you dont wanna work on the real cause, or you dont wanna accept the real cause, or because of simply not knowing the real cause yet, because of instead wasting time to make crunches. Just like an average looking girl, that wants to have an relationship and doesnt acchieve one for 20 years, and then tell herself, that it must be because of her not having an extreme size zero.

So yes, for hanging as a pic on a wall, you need to be extremly unnormal looking. But I dont think that thats the cause, why people accept all the disadvantages, I think they believe to have better chances for relationships, and thats why they do it. People telling that themselves, simply seek a cause to run away from truth. My Asperger diagnosis and accepting and working on it helped my relationship a lot more, then every size zero every could. Because size zero, wont change anything about me being a weirdo.

Edited to "was most probably" - but scholars often interpret it as fertility symbol, not beauty symbol, do your research.

I did, and because of it being found 80 km from my area with an own museum and it being part of my history, I relie on much more info then the ten sentences you can read on the english wikipedia side and the one sentence of it that you copied.

"The purpose of the carving is the subject of much speculation. It never had feet and does not stand on its own. The apparent large size of the breasts and abdomen, and the detail put into the vulva, have led scholars to interpret the figure as a fertility symbol." My english is a bit bad, but combined with the sentence "subject of much speculation", do you think "interpret" could mean, that its only one of many more possibilities?

And that its a bit obvious that the part of "it was not what men saw attractive back then." simply was invented by yourself?

And could it be, that the reason why on the US wikipedia only this rather celestial possibility is mentioned, while the much more "human" possibilities of it being used as a "wanking-helper", could be because of some US people being a bit prude. But you are right. There is no reason to think that this could be. I mean those people were as developed as we are, so it would be really weird to think that they would look at large breasted female woman with highly appearable lower sexual organ for being sexually stimulated. I mean who would have such a weird idea nowadays.

Thats as weird, as if archaeologists would discover, that the common little penis mosaics and mini-statues spread around ancient roman cities, were not used as fertility-symbols, as people believed, but simply would have shown the way to the next brothel.

Oh, I forget, they did discover and proof that.

Posting on an internet forum is a start in social activism for a message that doesn't really have a voice yet. Like I said, personally bucking society's expectations isn't quite enough to change society. This is because there are 7 billion people on the planet and lots of money and power being played around with. Posting something on an international forum like the Internet that could be read by hundreds of people is actually a good place to start. What would be even more effective would be writing a blog, book, newspaper/magazine article, starting an awareness-raising group, writing a song, etc, etc. People have got into this idea that they have no power over culture, but culture is more democratic than a lot of things - norms and fashions can be changed but you have to do more than just live your own dream to do it.

I think Schneekugel, by saying Boo is whining, you're effectively telling him to STFU, which is something that men often do to women when they complain about gender roles and expectations. 'Stop whining, you sound like a feminist and that's unattractive to us men', etc.

On the other hand, I think Boo is getting a bit too personal when criticising people's habits (like having 'sexy' calendars on the wall.) That puts people off listening to your argument. Nobody likes being told what to do. I find it's better to leave harsh criticism to people who have a decent amount of power: publishers, journalists, business people, politicians, film makers, writers - other people who either influence the public through marketing/money or otherwise have a public voice that gets listened to by a fair number of people.

+1.
