The whole purity ring thing doesn't work. Even in evangelical Christianity, the majority of people do it outside of marriage.

America is a country of sexually repressed prudes. Many teenage girls are forced to promise purity to their fathers still.

I know. That's not how most Christian denominations present pre-marital sex or purity, though.

It must be different in this country then. You're pretty much looked down on if you're a virgin in your late teens or older no matter what gender you are.

Anyone here with a "purity ring" would get made fun of even more. Then again New Zealand is one of the most promiscuous countries in the world.

Is it? I dont know... I think some European countries are more so. I thought New Zealanders were kind of prudish, though end up falling into bed because of boredom and alcohol.

They aren't. There was a study done that said we're only second to Scandinavia. Looking at the sort of person the "Average New Zealander" is, it doesn't surprise me in the slightest either. "Sweet as bro, lets shag and have a kid we can't support - careful not to hit my tramp stamp".

There is a website called "NZDating" which sums up the "average" New Zealander. It's simply full of trailor trash barbies and kens.

Well my high school was quite conservative in some ways but I think a lot of it was because of the high polynesian population, they tend to be more conservative and that kind of influenced my school.

I think New Zealanders differ philosophically to scandinavians. New Zealanders have an egalitarian society, and a fair amount of gender equality. It also has a lot of small towns and boring suburbs with not much to do but go and drink in bars, or have drunken parties at people's houses....

Scandinavia has a sauna culture... nudity is a very accepted thing there and people happily strip off in front of others in the sauna, no worries. Also it is so cold there that they need to keep each other warm and are always drinking vodka and beers...

I don't know enough about Scandinavia to make a judgement. All I can say is, this is your average NZ tramp:

Overweight
uncouth
slu*ty

If you don't believe me, seriously, go to NZ dating and look at the message boards.

Its not that I dont believe you, I just grew up in a different type of area to many New Zealanders, the rules are kind of reversed here.

I believe now adays in the younger generation there is a positive association allocated to a sexually active and permiscuous woman, especially if she is attractive, although many males desire a monogomous female, her permiscuousnos does not deter the male suitor where as years ago she did.
There has been a complete role reversal, if a male is percieved as a player the female will automatically lose interest, I was trying a different tactic on facebook of taking picture with random attractive females I had met while starting my business, I used some of these pictures on my facebook, although I did not share any sexual relations with them, these pictures detered potential american female suitors. Although I later surveyed a potential suitor I met on a dating site she said once she saw the pictures that turned her off and I replied what if I had no pictures, she said that would be a turn off as well. Ther is no winning in America.

Well, I'm 28 and a male virgin. So I do feel stigmatised and inadequate sometimes. I've never even had a girlfriend.

I think the only reprieve from this is that, as you round your 30's and start associating with people - they can look at you and figure out pretty easily what's going on (ie. if its a guy who's still single and looks a certain way - they can put two and two together that there's nowhere else that guy could be even on his best efforts), I'm not sure if women get that same effect or understanding from others just on acquired world wisdom? It takes a while but people eventually come to grasp that we're all treated differently in ways that we ourselves can't control. Its hard to tell the exact source of the real battle - whether its us fighting personalities that are incredibly inconvenient for us to have or whether its us grappling with societies that have us isolated, perhaps thats six one and half a dozen the other.
