I read the first three books of Dune when I was 12/13. I think my brain melted by the 3rd book.

Hullo Laz I was going to keep a low profile but I thought I had linked to myself before. I can type properly now I am not on the e-reader. Enders Shadow was more exciting as it told the same story as Game except from the point of view of Bean. In fact, it had a lot more detail about Battle School and was longer. I even read that the Enders Game movie will be based on shadow too. I enjoyed the Sequel to Enders Game - Speaker of the Dead, though I don't remember much about it and it was very different, about missionaries to alien pigs or something. Ender was looking for redemption for killing the buggers and trying to restart their race. I loved Dune 1, but 2 and 3 were bizzare, I enjoyed book 4, but could not get through book 5 (though there were cool and exciting scenes in what I read of it). There was a really exciting section of the bene women protecting the holy sandworm girl from assassins, but the story got too complicated for me. But definitely recommend Enders Shadow. Also recommend the Robin Hobb and George RR Martin books if you like those series. I read the first half of an Anne McCaffrey book and thought it was like Dune, but with dragons and caves instead of deserts and worms.

Mostly what I remember is (spoiler) the bad gay baron turned out to be the heros grandad, but still wanted to shag him. His bad nephew put poison needles on his rent boy's legs to kill him, when he found out he was pleased to have such a ruthless heir. the heros little sister killed the bad grandad with a poison needle at the end.

I like some of the concepts of Dune. Like how the bene gesserit are purposefully trying to genetically engineer the next ascenion in human evolution. The concept of a drug that is both fuel for space travel and a means by which the boundaries of human concioussness can be expanded. The drug actually being the offspawn of sand worms n stuff.

What's it all about. It's not like we're all Jews or Amish or something. We're just a bunch of people who were given the same label because we're all clumsy, nerdy and easily confused.

I remember, I need to try Frank Herbert's other books that were recommended to me, like the Dodasi prison one or something. I'm sure OS Card must have written at least some other good book that wasn't about the battle school.
