I hate to be negative but autistic women are at the highest risk on dating sites because of their innocence and unawareness of manipulation. I don't think it's a safe environment for those who are naive at all. There is a massive presence of criminals and scammers who are completely devoid of moral principles on these sites. I am very experienced in these things unfortunately and even I have fallen into this trap. I never gave personal details , email, phone, nothing. They usually show their true colors fairly quickly if you avoid giving them personal info diligently.

Depends on what's visible in the background. I suppose somebody could make a room or a part of a room look like a barracks and put on a uniform. I think I have camo fatigues in my closet somewhere and I was never in the military. Jakki's advice is good.

I went to the site socialcatfish.com, IsabellaLinton told me about, I paid to join. The pictures I saw were from two different websites. The guy I was talking to, I had a bad feeling about him, I ignore it. I already blocked him.

Yes, and it's even easier if he is someone like me and can look like a different person in every picture. I actually posted my picture here once knowing that anyone here would never recognize me in a million years and everyone I dated seriously told me I can look like ten different people. All you would have to do is find a real Army profile that looks similar and copy all that information to "borrow" their identity. Once again, these scammers are highly skilled at what they do to the point I probably encountered a few over the years who flaked before I realized it and called them out.

They aren't all scammers either: some are mentally ill and borrow a more successful persona online for attention seeking purposes.

I think I've seen a photo of you before. I'm curious, cos I thought you had a distinctive look.

Kitty, I think you need someone IRL to help you out with finding the right person.

I definitely look like a generic "Canadian/American/British/Australian" and I only stand out because of my height. It doesn't help that I have probably gained 50+ pounds. I would say the same thing about my son: he is (obviously) biologically mine but I could easily convince someone he was adopted because he has a different hair and eye color and is very social for a baby.

I would probably be really good at being a catfish if I was a criminal because I notice very small details like the positioning of medals on uniforms and can catch onto the 'lingo' of a particular group rather easily.

Glad you've blocked him, kitty. I've got 5 supposed "Army guys" currently on my Friends Request list on FB, and you soon learn they're identity thiefs through their approach and their pages ... I wouldn't go on a dating site if you paid me a kajillion dollars :P ... way too many fraudsters, criminals and I've heard from guys first hand what their "friends" do in regard choosing women. It's a joke or competition for quite a few on there...

When I talk to guys now, I’m always wondering if he is real or fake, can you take pictures off of OkCupid to check them out? Now I’m talking to a Marine.

please just be careful , even in real life , it seriously appears aspie types are generally diserable as targets.... And the odds of NT and them being a narcissitic or psychopath are not in favour of the aspie population as a whole. And have met both men and women that fall under these headings , more intelligent you are , academically. Or think you are safe and can identify these types . Think at least in my experience . The more of a target you become. And i just by virtue of good circumstances .. Figured was almost outrageouslly successful . Given where , i could be. Am now considering abandoning my life .. potentially .
due to dealing with sucha regular ongoing experiences with predators .
Am talking seperate circumstances people suppose to be neighbors or relations . over 1800 miles apart . people study your patterns never workingalone.
looting breakins , ongoing ,, victim of homicide , am good at higher level of electronic security now.. but if they get to learn you .. then ... not good.
used to be able to survive on my own... sorry to sound poorly,, but just be careful. Now am finding out police records are based on correct spelling and birthday..if one letter off .. they think seperate person. Done searches on people .. Just alittle less willing to take risks anymore. been on one sight listserv .know for a fact one person using 11 different names even seperate email addys ... even waiting name to expire if person not on regular and uses them.. funny thing , she cant make them all write at one time , within a certain time frame , so three will be lurking. if your the target... she can use IRC to watch what you might write in different rooms , The net is best and worst thing. Wish could say nicer stuff , but reality can be a bear.

Quite a few stories I could tell, that are kind of shocking, but we're living in the age of the internet, and unfortunately, it seems to go with the territory. Things must have been so much easier for people who lived say, when our parents were young and dating. My parents met at a dancehall, for example. No internet back then. No matter what you do, even meeting someone in real life, through College/Uni, shared interests, clubs or whatever, it always involves a leap of faith, and even trusting your instincts can fail, if the person is clever at putting on a persona. All I can say kitty, is all the best and as Jakki said, please keep yourself safe. My older sister(diagnosed HFA) had no problems at all attracting boyfriends, and being vulnerable, wound up in relationships with some, who were the worst kind! You really do have to keep your wits about you. I won't even bring my own experiences into this, as I doubt it would help.
