So what is sexual attraction?

Which kind of proves that there is no direct link between feeling sexual attraction and a desire for sexual intercourse. The link instead is with a desire to start the courtship ritual, which when successful, will end with reproduction, but things can also end at any time before that.
Courtship rituals are simply a means to an end.
Those that don't reproduce, don't add genetic material to the gene pool and their line is irrelevant from thereon.
Once you are gone, you are gone.
You are born,
You do "stuff",
And then you die.
What a charming, pointless life system. lol
Of course, but prolonged courtship rituals are highly enjoyable. Much more enjoyable than having sex five or ten minutes.
If you just skip over to the end of the courtship ritual by having sex as soon as possible, you miss out on all the fun and the most enjoyable stuff. That's why a three-year-long infatuation is much better than five minutes of sex, and besides, the end of every courtship ritual is reproduction.
I prefer the journey, rather than the climactic trope.
I don't smoke, so I wouldn't know what to do with my hands after the deed is done, anyway.
Re: your spoiler. You are supposed to cuddle your partner, give him/her/them your full attention, and proclaim your undying love.
Surely you knew that!
Oh!
Well, I know that *NOW*, D'uh.

Can we want to be enveloped by desirable men too, or is it just women? Personally I'm not interested in women.
For me sexual attraction is sensory. If I think the person would "feel good" or "smell good" or dare I say "taste good"

A chemical response, courtesy of the evolutionary process.
Pheromones inducing "moans" of desire, so to speak, my dear.
It is well known, that if your partner's natural body "scent" "stinks"
this doesn't relate to skunks, btw. EEP!
Your body is generally saying you are biologically incompatible and your offspring may suffer as a result.

8O then I will likely be attracted to them. I think our bodies pick up on this subconsciously because of pheromones
D'oh!
Beat me to the punch!

but even if you see a person on TV without pheromones, it's easy to have a sensory response. This response isn't always the same as the emotional response of having a crush on someone. I can have a crush without much sexual attraction, and I can have sexual attraction without much crush. When I get a double whammy (both at once) it's perfect!
May you have many passionate "whammies" with whomever you wish,
Assuming you are single or have an open relationship with your sigother.

I hope not! You're married!
DAMN!
There goes my game plan. <sigh>

Now the romance concept seems to be left out of this discussion , sometimes it is the very essence where sexual attraction can come from ..animal sniff animal parts , cows “haver “ to other cows . BullS to heifers .
All this doesn’t necessarily account for asexual persons , which apparently doesn’t necessarily physical interaction with others ..
won’t someone stand up for romance ? In regards to these types of attractions .?

No.
"Romance" necessitates a sexual component.
What you are after is "Platonic Love".
Here, have a brochure.

Just because we now know that pregnancy can be avoided doesn’t mean the inherent biological drive to have sex isn’t the over-riding factor in the incredibly intense drive to have sex.
You are a theist/religious, I believe. You believe in meaning in life.
I'm a hardcore atheist and don't.
All life is blindly reproducing, or trying to.
Everything else is irrelevant, in the end.
We are irrelevant.
Wrong. Being a Quaker does not require a theist pov nor does it require the insistence that life has purpose. It could mean that, but in this case, it doesn't.
I actually agree with you. Life is meaningless and we are just like bugs reproducing and then fouling our environment.
I see.
So, are you single, or have an "enlightened" partner? Coffee and cake, some time?

I now believe that it is just an extended version the bowerbirds building its bower. He just is trying his best to get intercourse so he can pass his genes along. Or, from Dawkin’s POV, the genes are manipulating the body to get the body to have sex so it (the gene) can reproduce itself.
The question asked here is not "why?" but "what?". The first warm day of the year, when a teenage boy sees his female classmates come to school wearing gym shorts instead of sweat pants, he will feel a physical urge that he can never really suppress although he will spend most of the rest of his life under a standing order not to act on it.
His female counterparts will also feel urges although not usually triggered by seeing the boys. However the matter of acting on this urge is different in their case so that rarely becomes an issue in the same way.
Intellectualizing this won't change human behavior in the least.
@blazingstar it's possible you've never felt a purely physical urge for intimate contact with a male counterpart, but I can assure you many women sometimes do, even though they may never act on it.
Huh? What makes you think that. I actually have an active, long and diverse sexual history. Just because I don't share the details on WP, doesn't mean I haven't had that experience.
Good grief! Makes me wonder what else people think about me.
Ummm.
Does the term "Dark Horse" mean anything to you?

It is spelt "electric".
Are you semi-dyslexic, like me, also?

Yes, of course I'm married----and I'm committed to my wife. I'm still allowed to talk about sexual attraction. It should not indicate that I intend to "sow my wild oats."
I'm not sure you are.
"You can't have your cake and eat it too", sort of thing, I would have thought.
