I get what you mean Joe but I'm NOT surprised. Some of us autistics tend to not notice hidden rules & like most any other groups of humans, there's more than a few hypocrites within the autism community.

Don't just repeat what you've been told. If you find yourself questioning a rule, and disagreeing with it, for your own good don't follow it as long as it returns a net positive.

And definitely don't repeat things you disagree with, propagating those things does no good.

What bothers me is that it's very regressive. These dolls are becoming more normalized than I would like and it'll get to a stage where they will probably become pushed on autistics and the disabled as an alternative to real sex.

Nothing wrong with actually buying a doll but I dislike people who have them saying that they're an actual alternative to a female when clearly they're not human. The NoFap community seems to end up getting pushed on us more and more by people who genuinely believe not masturbating will solve social development problems. I see the same in these.

People should try to treat the cause of the problems and not normalise really "out there" sticking plasters.

Love dolls are another thing to add to the list of weird "cures"

I said before that this may lead to development of unhealthy behaviors toward women, as a doll can't say that it shouldn't be treated a certain way.

A lot of them are unusual looking yes. Very over exaggerated features on a great deal of dolls. To a mild extent, many seem objectifying but on the same page, a lot of dolls are actually a "healthy" weight.

Women make consent clear though from my experience. I literally ask when in doubt even in the middle of the action.

Of course. But you get the point. And such things do get regulated, in Australia for example not allowing porn actresses below certain cup size (read: no flat chests, only big boobs), to discourage ideas of pedophilia.

I'm impressed Australian legislators are really this stupid.

I heard a few other countries have legislation against love dolls but I don't know what ones or why.

I have concerns that love dolls will be given or pushed onto autistics as a pacifier by health professionals in the future. A lot of modern loneliness alleviating solutions seem to put more distance between autism and society and not reduce it. Rent a friend in Japan for example, online friends (though good, they can be unhealthy long term) and of course sex dolls.

I think the guy in this article is autistic too.

I think it's unhealthy to make this device look human period.

Likewise I also believe robots should not be made to look human either, nevermind the uncanny valley problem. A machine should never be mistaken for a human. Also I think it's a waste of effort to replicate human features, a machine can instead be better built for it's application.

Humans can never be replicated by machines or dolls.

People need to make more of an effort to make this distinction clear for the sake of people like us who are a prime target for others who genuinely believe them to be a great alternative to the real deal.

In this modern world things like this can become insidious problem for us if society becomes too accepting of it. I've already been told to make online friends by health professionals and to not w*k by the NoFap folks so being told to get a sex doll as my sole companionship isn't much of a leap. It isn't a leap for any of us really.

Rambling on I know, but when I see articles like this I cringe. Nothing wrong with having a sex doll as long as the person who has it knows full well it's just a sex toy.

lonely people get what they can get. if not flesh and blood, then faux flesh. some folks just lack the social genes and no amount of horatio alger-ey stuff can change this. i wish the tradesman and his companion/s a long [and happy] life.

Sex toys have been doing the rounds for thousands of years. Nothing new with them and they appeal to many for different reasons. There are some amazing ones out there too.

A healthy relationship needs to be had with them though. The guy in this article seems to struggle with his keeping it healthy. I imagine in his effort to find a substitute partner, women ironically find him very off-putting.

he may just simply not know how to relate to people for the most part, at least people of his own western culture.

It’s masturbation. These dolls, and AI people, robots. Nothing wrong with masturbation. I’ve done it most of my life.

But to take it further than masturbation is unhealthy. To establish a “relationship” with something other than a living human is unhealthy.

A “virtual” human doesn’t count.

I wouldn’t ban it, though.

how would you handle it if every person you met found you too weird to relate to? that has been my experience. so talking to dolly at least would give the poor man some release from his solitude, why begrudge him that?
