My picture is not my avatar because I hate myself. It sickens me to see myself in the mirror because I see failure.
If someone were to insult my appearance it would be very personal. If they insulted my avatar it would not.
Right now I can not take personal insults and they may result in my suicide.

I'd rather have a picture of someone who is on the spectrum in my opinion, that I have similar features to in my opinion. That way, my parents won't freak out if they find my posts by mistake, because they won't see my actual picture.

^ The above is the long and short of it, but further info - I like to choose a picture that I find is most symbolic/representative of my inner self. When I used to have a picture of myself as my avatar it definitely wasn't ever your typical head shot - more this sort of thing:

It's a bit annoying to have restrictions on what type of picture I use as my avatar, but at the same time I feel the one I currently have is pretty much perfect in every way, so I'm very happy with it.
