Because that's part of the definition.

Because there is no definition. It means whatever the user wants it to mean. It's used to accuse any random guy of misogyny for any old reason.

Bob gave a girl a birthday present. Bob is a nice guy. Bob is a misogynist who see's women as sex objects because he is a nice guy.

Look, I know where I am, and I understand a little lenience is due. But if you're not going to read what I write, don't try to engage me.

Oh, did you run out paragraphs to copy from your Jessica Valenti book, now that we nailed all of you're arguments?

Thought so.

Is it the plagiarism that troubles you so, or paragraphs?

(I've never read any Vanlenti)

Be a hero in your own headspace, by all means, but don't troll me bro.

Once more, with feeling: A guy who is nice - shorter form, a nice guy - is not at all the same as a Nice Guy. Are we clear on that? I am, if you will, a guy. I think I'm quite nice - at least I try to be, as I believe it is part of basic civility and courtesy. I am certainly not a Nice Guy.

Another example when it is ok:
Bob gave a girl a compliment. Bob is an alpha guy. Bob expects the girl to have sex with him. Bob is only looking for casual sex. Because Bob is a desirable guy, it means he doesn't think women are objects. (yet, he obviously does).

f**k me, you people sure have it in for Bob!

Y'all want some salt to go with those chips?

Is neuroscience considered "real" science? Because more and more each day neuroscience is being folded into psychiatry and psychology, as well as medical/biochemical science. How much neuroscience does psychology need to include before it can start to be considered "real" or "hard" science? Is there a percentage threshold or something?

Doubtful. The current state of neuroscience might have some scientific merits, but mostly it is about datamining and it is severely lacking in cause-effect analysis. In short, if Big Pharma didn't do much of this research in order to push drugs, it might be a lot more promising. Also, when neuroscience relies on unscientific DSM labels, it cannot, almost by definition, be considered as real science.

How would you respond if a girl accuses you of being a Nice Guy?

Of course, if we followed the monistic reductionist perspective in pursuit of a 'real' scientific understanding to help those who bring their difficulties here, we'd be offering help in the guise of equations.

Neither psychology nor sociology need to be 'real' sciences in order to do good and be helpful. It's a bit like thinking, if someone who hasn't seen a cricket match before asks what's going on, the 'real' way to explain is to break out the physics jargon.

You don't need to revert back to physics or equations in order to be scientific. A good start is to use empirical methods, correlations, and cause-effect analysis. However, in feminism and sociology, this never happens, and it is done in the same way as the DSM. You define something in arbitrary ways, and then try to predict other variables or effects with invalid methods like you did with Nice Guys and viewing women as objects.

Thing is, I'm not trying to be scientific, as you take it to be. I don't see why a discussion on the 'friendzone' needs to be scientific (and I can't believe I had to write that sentence), nor what light such an approach could shed, if it were even feasible.

If you want to carry on in the fashion that suits you, that you deem 'scientific', by all means do so. But I am not perturbed by the dismissal of my (hopefully) humorous-yet-serious take on a cultural trope (and, for many, a reality) as 'unscientific'.

I am not a sociologist, though I find some of the ideas interesting and enlightening. I am a feminist, but in the sense of having political sympathy with the basic principles rather than going full-tilt on a feminist analysis of everything ever.

Like any other such accusation against my character, I'd consider and weigh it in context. If it was possible, I'd ask for an explanation.

As long as my daughters think I'm cool, I'm fine.

ETA: If you see me pissing and moaning about how I got turned down AGAIN despite being NICE and all women want are JERKS etc, you have my express permission to track me down, concuss me, then have 'NICE GUY [trollface]' tattooed on up to three (3) of my limbs.

I've been constantly been called a "nice guy" by people and I NEVER ONCE claimed that I was entitled to sex, nor saw women as sex objects. So yeah, the phrase "nice guy" has got to go.

I can't believe this hopper has a thing for his daughters. But I guess that's alright when other fellow feminists can write books about molesting their own sisters.

Wit as sharp as that, and yet you're still single?

Tough break, bro.

You should report that as a major personal attack.

Very low from boxman.

Oh, come on. Anyone who uses the epithet 'cuck' is clearly not a happy bunny.

I think that people should be allowed to express contempt. I think you should be allowed not to consent, by way of your silence. Dissidence does not make you damaged goods, that zebra who was separated from the herd, or wildebeest with a limp.

Traditionally, the male was expected to be the initiator and active principle.

The term 'cuck' effectively expresses that he is being objectified, generally for purposes of money and emotional validation -- his deserved, sexual needs will not so much as be humored.

Have you counted all of the syllables, in what I just wrote? Or, does one, short word sum that all up, succinctly. Cuck.

The other thing I would like to point out --
This goes much deeper than misogyny, for who is objectifying the male.

The bull, or woman's love interest is objectifying the beta, white knight, male provider.

This one, short word, cuck, is also making a social statement about your male competitor. What does the other guy think of your personal sacrifice, emotional security, and physical belongings. Does he get a thrill from the sense of violation.

And, will you cover for that. The cuck is a willing, no, eager party to said violation, a real life personification of the vulgar, pornographic genre. Congrats to whomever coined the term, so apt.

1. Some interesting thoughts and all, but I was not saying people should not be allowed to express contempt. I was saying anyone who throws out 'cuck' is not a happy bunny. Nothing in what Mr Boxman has written persuades me otherwise.

2. The 'cuck' phenomenom is both utterly bizarre and yet makes complete sense, men reducing all political and social understanding of their seeming decline and impotence to a singular fetishistic fear/desire that can be (hopefully devastatingly) projected in a single syllable bark of ambivalent anguish.

You have my unconditional position on this, whether I could convert you, or not. I have admitted my own biases and wrote about them intentionally, none of which were ambivalent or an animal noise.

I'm dwelling, for too long, and should really take a break.
