It's' not creepy/harassment when an alpha male approaches a woman. But since most of us aspie men aren't alphas and never will be (it's hard-coded into DNA), your statement very much holds true.

How to I become an alpha male?
You can't! You'd be fighting against an evolutionary mechanism that's hundreds of millions years old, dating back to reptiles. (Fish, which evolved even earlier, don't have as robust of a sexual selection process.) You can, however, emulate an alpha male, enough to get women to believe you are one. How to emulate? By learning PUA. However, PUA gets a lot of controversy here on WP, and I had vitriol thrown my way by mods and other posters for talking about it. But always trying to be liked only leads to resentment. So...
Google is your friend. Search around on the internet for PUA information. Just don't go near Roosh V. His material is too damn radical, and may confuse you at this point. Also forget about David DeAngelo. He gives you generic, good-sounding theories, but never any specific examples, not even in his $200 CD series. (Yes, I paid, back in 2002 or 2003.) Many other PUA sites are way better, although some require a paid subscription.

I wonder are there people who enjoy grocery shopping?
there are (yep. me)
but i don't think that's the point anyway. moments of boredom with people around you, or moments when you need small favors, are probably what makes the difference. it's a safe public space where you meet strangers without going out of your way
but definitely, it's not a place to look for anyone. it's just facilitated coincidences. "should i approach her?". if you're even asking yourself, then don't. but if you want to be open to extending trivial conversations, sure, there's nothing wrong with that

I've done some research on dating, and I'm genuinely surprised by how many people say they met their significant other by chance while grocery shopping. I don't know why, but that idea just strikes me as hilarious. Hilarious, and extremely far fetched. Maybe I'm the minority, but the grocery story has always struck me as the place where you go and avoid try to avoid eye contact with all the strangers who are there with you. You don't talk to them, because why would you? You don't know them. You don't know who they are, what they're into, or if you have any common interests. Pretty much nothing makes me more uncomfortable than when a complete stranger tries to make me talk to them. Then again, I'm hardly what you would call social. I still can't wrap my head around the idea of meeting your future boyfriend/girlfriend at Walmart, or wherever you get your groceries. Is this really a thing that happens, or are people just BS-ing us?
I've heard that for a long time, but don't know if its an Urban Rumor or not. It was supposedly a place to find women in numbers and in a non threatening situation. Also looking at certain items provides fodder for casual conversation starters. (ie. I've never tried that brand is it any good?') But I think its not so much for the younger folks.
I have got into conversations in the pet aisle a few times. But with anyone. Thats a subject I enjoy talking about. Meat, Beans, Cereals, not so much.

Considering just how subjective and diverse women's taste can be, there is no possible situation in existence where it's appropriate to cold approach women, or even mutual friends for that matter.
Not at the gym - they want to focus on their workout. Not at the bar or nightclub - they just want to have fun with their friends.
At an anime/cosplay convention? Ha, get real. The cosplaying woman doesn't want creepy neckbeards or awkward skinny guys cold approaching her. She just wants to have fun at the convention.
At the beach? Of course not. She's already in a bikini and has more than half of her body showing off, of course the guy approaching her only wants to get laid and this will make her uncomfortable.
My advice is to simply disregard what some women say and just approach anytime, anywhere so long as it's decently approrpiate.
Obviously, not at night or at the women's clothes section or in alleyways or anything.
I feel aside from the grocery store, gyms, public transportation, hallways/alleyways, most stores except for bookstores, at night, etc. approach almost ANYTIME, ANYWHERE you see fit in open, public spaces in broad daylight or at bars or social groups.
If a woman cries for help, it's very likely every healthy man, woman and child in the vicinity will rush to her aid.
Watch this video for a good example. Don't worry, the example I am referring to is the very first one in the video, though there's a few others to show people are quick to save a woman from an aggressive male.
Just approach anywhere where you know you could never get away with anything even if you tried, and leave her alone if she becomes uncomfortable anyway.
The beach is not a good idea but it can be done. Obviously try to quickly see if she has a bra on or not. If not you're really pushing into 'creep' territory if you were to cold approach her.

Nothing was ex-communicated to me in this way, and I briefly had my eye on someone(future bf) who decided to turn up at my chequeout at the time, to scan some items. (Also taking an interest). Later on, after a long shift, I decided to meet up with him, and I guess we got together not long after that. It's a good job one of us already had the incentive to drive things forwards, but the job didn't last long and the training was poor anyway. Customers were ok, apart from some rude ones and conditions were poor. I doubt with my condition things would have improved and I wasn't then diagnosed, so going back some years. BF, is still manning the ropes btw ten years later.
That does seem to be the usual case in which someone actually did a study--one of the partners worked at the supermarket. What most of us agree on it that it is useless to approach another customer at a supermarket.

These days it would be useless approaching anyone in a supermarket, especially if it's seen carrying an I-Pad or other estranged technology that older people like me wouldn't want, as the overall added distraction in a public place.
It's also a myth that women aren't responsive to the male 'take on' approach. If you're not going to be subtle about it, you hardly want to wave a can opener in the air and yell for someone to help you.
A dazzling compliment is usually all it takes.. or usual common chat, and if that fails to amuse then there are always other public places. We can't all pretend to be lucrative house-wives.
Of course, I avoid peer pressure groups and public social networks like exposing flesh to experimental freaks and regular out-patients.
I'd rather bask in a take out and bump into someone per chance, than try to humiliate myself over and over again.
