An advantage with girls? Can't be done.
With my last girlfriend I tried to explain why she would be better off using a laptop instead of using her iPhone for everything. She ignored me.
With an earlier girlfriend I tried to explain why my BlackBerry is better than her iPhone. She didn't believe me.
I was talking to a girl on Facebook and I tried to explain why she should shoot her photos and videos in landscape orientation instead of portrait orientation. She got mad at me.
There is no geekiness advantage. That sort of geeky talk doesn't turn girls on.

Geekiness can be an advantage with girls if you can turn it into making money or if they think you can. I mentioned Aspergers on dating sites & some girls messaged me hoping I was making good money working with computers or some other tech & they quit responding when they found out I wasn't ![]()

Oh I don't go into the everyday stuff, this I'm well aware of. It's much better to talk about the real logic of how tech works than to dwell on silly end user habits. I feel like tech being a guys club is really unfair to women.

People are still coming back to Microsoft products.
Worse in what sense? I’ve had fewer problems with Apple than PC’s. No problems with iPhone aside from the battery issue that forces most people to upgrade the phone (I don’t fall for it, and Apple has finally owned up to it). I bought the latest/greatest MBP last year and it has run like a dream. As did my MBP before that I’ve had since ‘08. My only complaint? Apple’s tendency to completely drop old platforms. I bought an older PowerMac for $50 to program a sampler over SCSI and it’s been nothing but reliable. I can’t do those kinds of things as easily on Microsoft.
I’m not an Apple apologist. Both companies do a lot of good for a lot of users. My biggest complaint with MS? Moving MS Office to the cloud, making things difficult for those of us who want to run Office locally without paying a subscription. That freakin’ p!sses me off, and I still refuse to invest in products that operate strictly as a subscription. I’m not on Composer Cloud (EWQL, soundsonline.com) for that very reason. However, I DID purchase the exact libraries I wanted and had them shipped out in a hard drive. I’m broke, but not so broke I’m blind to a better deal.
I digress...both companies have their pros and cons that make them ideal for different groups of users. They both strongly support their customer base and continue to attract more users.
I haven’t seen the same support for Linux distros except for carving a niche with inexpensive netbooks. There’s something to be said for that, too. But fact remains that Linux appears to only attract a certain segment of users—those for whom the appeal of an OS is in user customization of the OS itself, something you can’t do with OSX and only in limited ways with Windows.
Apple and Microsoft remain the biggest players out there for a reason. More overall satisfied customers.

I'm actually asking myself how you cannot see that everything you said there was nothing more than your opinion and she simply disagreed with that opinion. I happen to hold the same opinion as you on all counts, but just because you hold an opinion doesn't make someone else's wrong. You are telling someone "she should do this", "it would be better if she that"....why do you think you know better what is best for someone else than she does? Expressing a suggestion is one thing, but the way you phrased this post, that is not what this was....you were telling someone else why they were wrong and your way was better. Do you understand how that comes off? That is NOT geekiness advantage, it's obnoxious.

I'm SO in that club. I personally don't want to be involved romantically with anyone who can't tech it out and go all geek with me. Probably why I am drawn to my (former) aspie friend in the first place---super geek, loved that. And not for monetary reasons, I have my own. Just loved the pure geek of it. Like we were sympatico. But he hates me and I'll probably never hear from him again. Whatever. There are women out there just like me. But we're rare.
I bet you two can get past that when you have technologies as common ground. As evidenced by our thread here, all of us feel hated without cause sometimes. Even if you both messed up there's still plenty to talk about.
It makes me sad when the girls in my life underestimate their own technical abilities without giving things a try. The way I see things, even if I'm largely absent from everyone's lives at least I've had a hand in building a free global library everyone can access without lifting a finger. Free tech support means I
you.

Nope. He hates me and he's stubborn and he's made a decision to never have anything to do with me and he won't budge. Others have tried to tell him how ridiculous he was but there is nothing anyone can do. But this is, in fact, part of FunkyPunky's original post. Cold. Just cold. We were so close, now we're not, just like that, like it never mattered. My warmth and kindness and attention were offensive, even though it was normal in the eyes of any other person but his. I'm angry at asperger's. Not the people who have it, so don't freak out, I'm just angry at asperger's for existing. I cared for him. My bad. My hurt to bear. Because he doesn't care. Please don't say he does but can't express it. He does not care.
People change & change back all the time. Also any random factor can be reponsible for discord so we shouldn't rush to blame any one circumstance. Social ineptitude doesn't prevent anyone from enjoying a discussion with you, give yourself time.

if you’re not good enough, the conclusion is clear: be better, die trying or suffer the consequences and the shame of your weak will.

Oh boo friggin' hoo. He told them that better gadgets are better gadgets. If that's all it takes to hurt someone's feelings because he didn't explicitly state that that was his opinion then they deserve to have their feelings hurt.

Huh? I bought Office 2016 last year and it runs locally and hasn't asked me to pay a subscription.
Are you talking about Office 365? You don't have to use that version. That normal version of Office is still available.

It looks like you didn't see that my post was meant humously. That's completely understandable. In text you can't hear the tone of voice and even in real life I'm known for my deadpan humour which can often be confusing for people.

Even though I work in IT I know little about how it works. I'm not the only one. You'd be amazed at how many people working in IT know little about computers. I think it's the effect of over-specialization. They only have to know about their role, nothing more. No, I don't like it either.
