...on a date? Having never dated I'm kinda curious.

I'm pretty sure I've gone on a date but i dont really know what I talked about...

mainly just life I think, and interests.

Like, as a uni student, we'll talk about uni to start with, just to warm up.
and then will talk more thing, interest, thing that you're passionate about and see how the other person respond

if going to a movie, talk about the movie.
if going to a restaurant, talk about the food
if going to a library, talk about books and study...

i dont really think about what to talk on a date...just talk about life! from the surface, slowly to the deeper part.

So for you, is it any different from getting to know someone just as a friend?

hmmm...not really i guess...except that you might get nervous and started saying weird tings...! I found myself perform much better when I'm not nervous... unfortunately, whenever i see the guy i like i got nervous... so i always perform better when Im with the guys I'm not really interested in.
of course, if you have been to dates with this particular person several time and you kinda like him... you can start flirting now that's different from just talking to a friend.
many bf and gf started as "best friends"
