if it weren't for the fact that fat unattractive girls get really horny too, i'd doubtless still be one.

Here's a hint: Go ahead and set some standards for yourself. Resolve NOW that will never, EVER happen again.
I'm WAY past all that at this point in my life. What I've found at my age is younger women are more easily influenced by older guys. I got involved (non-sexually) with a young lady (20 years old) at our community theater. Because she played the part of my "love interest," we decided to spend as much time together off-stage so that the on-stage chemistry would be more convincing. Had my situation been different (wife and kids), it would have been interesting to see where the relationship MIGHT have gone, especially with a 10-year age difference. Nevermind the fact that she was a teenager when I first met her 5 years earlier!
I think the main problem is the younger you are, the longer a year seems to stretch out in front of you. Waiting for 25 to get here when, as an oldER person being able to do things you can't do when you're younger, seems to be something that will never happen. Younger people want things IMMEDIATELY, and I think with age comes a lot more patience. I'd be hesitant to advise anyone to lose their virginity "just to get it over with." Take the time to cultivate something more meaningful with someone so that experience won't be such a horrible thing.
