I'm curious, how much older than you does a woman have to be to be considered a couger?

I'd say she has to be around her 40s and she has to be going after men under 25.

One small question first..
if it is the guys doing the pursuing, and not the female, then what would she be called?

Carry on.. :P

I've always heard that if a guy dates an older woman ( as in 40+ old) he's dating a cougar, however if he's dating a younger woman (younger than the half + seven rule) then the guy is "robbing the craddle"

1) What if the mother had a kid at a really young age?
2) Nope, all is good right now and I am moving soon, so not a chance would I get into anything right now.
But I have only been with guys younger then me, (except for the first guy and he was my age),
and because of that 'friends' and others labelled me a cougar.
It made no sense to me, because I was not pursuing them.

Yes, but the cougar thing comes from a female going after the guy, or so that is what I was told?
Hell, I don't even go to the 'cougar' bar here..

*shudder from the stories*

and please someone explain this rule? And what is the importance of 7?
I had never heard it until I came here.

Thanks..

kinda irrelevant when she has or hasn't had kids.
what i meant by being old enough t be the guy's mother is that like if you're in roughly the same age range/generation as their mother.
And if they're old enough to be legally having sex, then they're roughly 15-20 (depending on the state or country).

so basically if the age gap is 15-20 years or more, that pretty much qualifies as cougar status.
some might argue a smaller age gap can qualify, but i believe in the "old enough to be their mother rule." :P

& oh, cool. Where you moving to?

Yes, the cougar thing does come from an older female going after the younger male http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Cougar

I've never heard this rule, but I'm assuming that it's something set in society?

Supposedly it's the age at which the male is able to date, and have it still be considered decent.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... plus-seven

I dunno...technically when I started dating my girlfriend this rule would have been broken (I'm 21, she was 16 and 9 months)...

I don't think it's a matter of older than your age but rather just that late 30s to early 50s range of a middle-aged housewife sort.

The 'rule' is a guy can date a girl that's half his age plus seven.

So me, at 26, shouldn't be going any younger than 20. 20 is awfully young, though...I've discovered I typically get along better with early 30's...

Agreed again.

Basically, any dating Katie Couric does makes her a cougar (heck, she's as old as my mom, and one of her daughters is in college!)

God, why can't she go back to the Today Show? It's not the same place without her.
