I just got a girl's phone number

I met her at my college library. She's an attractive African-American woman who is majoring in marine biology. I asked her out for coffee, and she agreed, and then we exchanged phone numbers. We plan to go out for coffee sometime this weekend. Right now, it's just a friendly outing, but I'm hoping it will develop into a full-blown relationship!

Toad I don't know what to tell you man. Everything has already been said to you.

All singles get phone numbers all the time, and it mostly doesn't go anywhere.

You have to meet a lot of people to find The One.

You make it sound like it's a total and utter failure because one number "didn't go anywhere". What did you expect? An immediate commited relationship and sex? A phone number can, but not always, get you one (1) date with someone. That's all.

Go out there and meet people. Meet lots of new people. Share common interests. Ask them about their lives. Etc... Everyone does this dude. It is nothing weird or scary.

Do you want each new day of your life to resemble the last, or do you want to break out of your routine and make something of yourself? Suck it up and just do it.

Something similar happened to me but with an email address last week. I took my camera to school and a girl spotted me out or I caught her with a camera in my peripheral vision and we talked.

Ouch. Way to kill the optimism.

I tried calling her tonight, but the person who answered was her boyfriend. She's another girl who is already taken! I feel so pissed off now!

The guy could have been another dude who wants to date her. Of course he'd tell you he's her boyfriend just to drive you away.

Talk to her and casually mention that you've tried calling and some guy answered. Ask who he is.

Or maybe he IS a boyfriend. Maybe they've been together for a while and she's planning on ditching him, so she gave you her number.

Or maybe he's an ex boyfriend.

Who knows. So you should TALK TO HER.

My point is, don't just give up at the first obstacle. If you give up so easily, how could you handle a real relationship and all its challenges?
