I was speaking to a friend of mine, and she mentioned that if I had made "the move" with the girl I was going out. What move? What is the move? How is it done? How do I know when to do the move?

Not sure, but guessing the move refers to letting her know how interested you are. But I suppose it could also refer to a sexual advance ?

It's probably referring to you making a pass at her. In other words, kissing her on the lips at some point and her kissing you back. My advice is not to be too hung up over it. It generally happens when it's supposed to happen. Don't try to MAKE it happen by trying to kiss her in an awkward way. When it's time, you'll know for sure and you won't hesitate.

If your friend told you that I can assume you are going out with a girl but you have not told her yet that you like her. "The move" means different things in different contexts. To "make the move" is going forward with the relationship, to the next level. So that could mean tell her you like her, kiss her, have sex with her, and so on... It is just taking the initiative to "move" the relationship forward. It is important. If you like someone you should let that person know that you like her. Otherwise she can think you are only interested in her as a friend and start seeing someone else.

"The move" in this context refers to an attempt to initiate sex, the term seems fairly common in sitcoms and such. Making "A move" is a little more ambiguous but 'the move' always refers to sex as far as I understand it.

Ah, the mysterious move. The ever elusive thing that I never seem to know about, yet everyone references.

"The move" is NOT an attempt to kiss her or initiate sex. It's a far less intrusive gesture which indicates to someone that you are romantically interested in them.

It can be fairly tricky to pull off as it requires some ability to read non-verbal cues that might constitute the other person indicating they are also interested in you and want you to make "the move"

For people not good at reading non-verbal cues, directness isn't as romantic, and it's far more binary, but it works.

It would basically go something like.

1. Invite her to a romantic place. A nice restaurant, or scenic view, a lake, the beach, some place where you can have a nice walk and talk.

2. While there, during one of these talks, you can tell her "I have something to tell you,"
At this point, you can flat out tell her you like her, or you can be more charming, for example, just giving her a rose.

If you don't want to do it this way you can send her flowers with a teddy bear.

Either way you do it, you need to be emotionally prepared for the fact that she might reject you and the friendship might come to an end.

How to Make a Move on a Girl.

yeah basically be the greatest, sweetest, most charismatic, smooth move operator showing some depth, tenderness, affection, and mystery. easier said than done. if it is just for the casual or the friends with benefits, well this doesnt really appy.
As Mooj says in the 40 year old virgin
Mooj: Life is about people. It's about connections.
Andy Stitzer: It's all about connections.
Mooj: It's not about cocks, and ass, and tits.
Andy Stitzer: Yeah.
Mooj: And butthole pleasures.
Andy Stitzer: It's not about butthole pleasures at all.
Mooj: It's not about these rusty trombones, and these dirty sanchez.
Andy Stitzer: Please stop.
Mooj: And these cincinatti bowties, and these p**** juice cocktail, and these s**t stained balls.
Andy Stitzer: Mooj, just please stop.

yeah its about connections, whether fake or real, temporary or long term, shallow or well-meant, thats what the move is. you get lucky. good luck.

to the OP

its important to not too get worked in the event of rejection as the woman could be totally the wrong one!

you have to find a relevent "connection" between the two of you before advancing. if you find that you truly understand each other, it won;t be that difficult to "make the move"

I have also been told the "if only you made the move" stuff from friends and this made me feel dissapointed in that i somehow missed my chance. the truth is though that the girls i was somehow meant to approach would proabably have had nothing in common with me.
