Hi
I've noticed recently that most of the guys I've had crushes on couldn't stand me, and that I started to like them around the same time that I realized that; whereas the guys that did show an interest in me I viewed as creepy and needy. I have no idea if it's: a) because they (boys that hate me) are the only guys that give me the several square miles of personal space that I need; b) because you always want what you can't have; c) because really I don't want a relationship, I want my mum to stop bugging me about being asocial; or d) because deep down I hate myself so much that I think that anyone who doesn't like me must have excellent taste.
Does anyone else get this? Due to the 'personal space' option and the fact that I've never spoken about my asperger's to fellow aspies (so I'm not completely sure what I can blame on it) I have no idea if it could be an aspie thing, or just me being extra 'special'.
Thanks for reading,
-Catriona

I'm not qualified to answer your question, but I'm curious: If you need "several square miles" of personal space, of what use is a boyfriend to you anyway?

I think only you can answer this question, CatrionaW.

All of this.

Yeah. I think it is probably a mix of everything you mentioned. I am the exact same way, and I think the reasons you listed sound pretty accurate. Not sure its an aspie thing, think its just a human thing. :D
Well good luck, it is good that you notice you do this, and maybe plan on changing little by little if you are so inclined.

As Groucho Marx said, "I wouldn't want to belong to any club that would accept me as a member".

Yeah, this approach won't end well.
