I have a male aspie friend and had an intrresting discussion with him before.

Apperantly he has spent years overcoming his disability so he will never date another person on the spectrum and would prefer someone normal.

I prefer other aspies.

What do you prefer and why

I've never met an Aspie in RL, and I am not officially diagnosed, so I'm not sure if I should post here. But I have to say I find relationships with supportive and understanding NTs helpful, because NTs can help you get back on track and they can explain some things to you.

i don't have a preference, as long as the other person is willing to work with me. i am constantly working at improving aspects of myself, but i am definitely ummmmm a challenge in some ways.

Women that are compassionate, educated, happy, healthy, heterosexual, intelligent, loving, passionate, sexy, talented, and witty.

Why? They make life interesting!

I prefer an aspie but the aspie I preferred after investing over a year in trying to show my feelings and deep affection decided to give it up to someone 3 years younger and 70 pounds heavier than myself on their first date and was overwhelmed because they got treated like a fellow NT having sex and not like an aspie with sensory difficulties like myself and I would have been considerate of that fact and not treat them like an NT would and have respect for boundries.

I prefer the lady that likes me back, regardless of neurological status.

Of course it's all theoretical anyway... there is no such lady that likes me back.

I'm kind of the opposite from the stereotypical Aspie in some ways when it comes to relationships. The stereotype is that Aspies tend to need a lot of alone time & personal space, have problems dealing with strong emotions & dislike affection. I have a very strong desire to be close with my partner, I like discussing/addressing feelings/emotions with my partner, I love being affectionate with her, & I HATE being away from her. My 2nd girlfriend was kind of the stereotypical Aspie & those differences caused lots of problems in our relationship. She understood me & was closer to me than anyone else ever was but I think one of the biggest components to make a relationship work is both partners putting froth effort to work together & find ways to compromise when necessary; I did not get that with her. My preference is to find a woman who's willing to give me a real chance who will put forth about as much effort as I do in the relationship weather she's an Aspie or normal NT or an atypical NT

I think both aspies and NTs have their positives and drawbacks.

I dont want a future relationship but I think an NT could have a lot to offer as they can be caring and have a lot of empathy and flexibility which is useful. I think aspies can find it harder if the partner has children from a previous relationship.

On the other hand aspies can be much more relaxing to be around and tend to have more interesting conversations.

But empathy is very useful in a relationship.

That sounds extremely narrow minded, normal is only subjective after all, there's no such thing as normal. It's wrong to generalize people on the spectrum to be a certain way since there are many factors which determine who we are, we are all individual people.

That stereotype describes me perfectly, I actually start to feel trapped and detach when someone shows too much affection or emotion. I'm afraid of commitment and I can't stand being around someone for a prolonged amount of time. I'm someone who needs space otherwise I become overwhelmed and stressed since it's difficult for me to process emotions or provide emotional support.

I prefer whoever has a personality that clicks with mine, regardless of whether or not they happen to have the same condition as me.

It's not an easy question. I know not all aspies are the same. I don't want to offend anyone.

I prefer NT's. Like Asp-z, i want someone with a personality that clicks with mine, and up to now i've only had that with NT's. Most male aspies i've met in real life were really opposite and different then me. My aspergers is really mild. I appear NT. My only problem are my social skills, being shy and talking to people i don't know that well. In real life i'm sort of a calm quiet type. I'm friendly, open minded, understanding over things. They were like, idk how to say this, problematic. Behaviour problems. Rude, big mouthed, anger outbursts, lacked empathy, close minded, selfcentered, egocentric. They just clearly had alot of issues and problems. I couldn't get along with them.

I'm exactly the same way.

I do not know how it works for aspie-aspie relationships, but I am in aspie-NT relationship (me being the aspie part) and it works pretty well, we compensate for each other's weaknesses..

So I think that quality of a relationship is not as much influenced by autistic characteristics of partners as it is influenced by compatibility of personalities and by willingnes to cooperate, especially when problems arise.
