I freaked a man out and now i am freaked out
(the title is NOT a euphemism for anything)
So, where to begin?
Met this guy through my local fellowship, really cute, a few years older, he is sweet and strange like me
I thought things were going well and quite flirtatiously then his tune changed. I found out his father passed away in the past year and it evoked a strong emotional response in me because my parents passed away about five years ago, and well my waterworks started...
I found out my friend has been having panic attacks since we talked, and now I feel bad like maybe I triggered something for him. Yet still, I have this major crush on him and I just know he probably is not at a good place for a relationship now (that, and I think I effectively killed an chances I had with him)
I know it is not necessary to divulge to everyone I know on my parents deaths (I am only 27, so most people assume I have parents) But I have no idea how to handle this, especially when something like this happens. I was freaked out enough that I actually picked up on a man's advances and it totally caught me of guard when he told me about his father's death, I just found myself hurting for him. Part of me just wants to hide under a rock for the next year, but I don't want to hurt my friend's feelings.
Dang life is complicated.
It's compassion. I break down and cry when I see a puppy in trouble. Being compassionate is never a problem. Learning to keep those tears from falling is a hard one. I started to cry at a job fair last week because it was so beautiful. There were so many booths, and I saw this as a sign that the economy was looking up. I also recently talked to someone whose father just died. I started crying as well.
I mean, it is sad.
Carry tissues with you every where you go. Or a hankie. Maybe that will help.
Maybe you could discuss this with him? It sounds like both of you could use some emotional support here. And since you each understand what the other is going through, perhaps you could help each other through this...
Also... Are you sure the panic attacks are about his parents? Or might he likewise be worried that he freaked you out?
