I am so sick of the autistic obsessions. Anyone else? It seems to go in a cycle for me. First one thing, then another. For all of my life. then, 2.5 years ago, the focus of the obsession became an older man, a psych teacher.(My first human being obsession) I have tried EVERYTHING to get over him. Nothing has worked. Anyone have a similar situation? How could I get over it? (I like being alone, if this obsession becaome a reality, I am not sure how to handle it) spirited

I have had a lot of people obsessions.I usually get over it by getting to know them.... :D It seems to last about 6 months and isnt because the person was a bad person,just....dont know, obsession ended.
I know this makes me a heartless B....but thats the way it was for me.At 39,I met someone I wasnt obsessed with, got to know him as a person instead of an obsession....and we are together 4 years later.Point being.....obsessions with people is different then love for a person.Learning the difference is painful for all involved.

For about the past year, I had been obsessed with an aspie woman who had virtually the exact same interests I had, and was very physically attractive. But she lived on the other side of the U.S. and was not willing to do a long-distance relationship. I have a set of criteria that any prospective girlfriend must meet (see my thread entitled "I give up" to see the list of criteria). This woman was the only one who met all of them (except she didn't live anywhere near Boise, ID). And to make things worse, she appeared to be very emotionally unstable.

There was a second one who met all my criteria *and* was emotionally stable, but she was only 17 years old--therefore, I couldn't legally date her.

I'm a mess when it comes to liking people; the only real way I'll stop is if I find someone I like better. The problem is my standards are becoming so unrealistically high that it's making it progressively harder to move on.

I don't really get obsessed when it comes to people, unless I am with them and already have love feelings for them. If I like someoene and know I have no chance with them, I distance myself (as this is what I do best) from them. I tend to form obsessions with things or learnig information. like with Biology, or food. These are my two main obsessions. CockneyRebel seems to do this too i.e. with Routemasters. And do you know what? These obsessions can be just as hurtful. Routemasters are now gone hence CockneyRebel isn't happy and we don't sell those Jolly Ranchers sweets in my country anymore (and I have to travel down South to get a Pukka pie as they don't sell them in Manchester) and things like this piss me off. I'm no longer distressed by them because they were both quite a while ago now, but hey.
