What's the point of working out and trying to go out and meet people when nobody looks at you or smiles at you - no matter how slim and fit and shaved you are? No matter how hard you've tried to go to a music show or comedy show - everybody is with somebody - except you. Where the hell are all the lonely people like me? Am I really the only one? Do I look that ugly? Why are only girls that I'm not attracted to - attracted to me? This doesn't make any sense I just want to stay home and play pokemon. I bought a music ticket for tonight - but I just went for a walk and all four of the attractive girls I smiled at didn't take notice of me whatsoever - infact they even made an effort to ignore me by turning their head away at the moment I smiled at them.

I wouldn't worry too much about people looking away when you smile at them, especially if they are strangers passing on the street. Well, I live in a busy city where people rarely seem to make eye contact or smile to strangers.

I think the best way to meet someone is to have something in common with them first. Smiling at a stranger is not going to do it, no matter how attractive you are.
Have you tried on line dating? You may be able to hook up with someone who has similar interests.

Alex Plank made a point yesterday essentially saying "clothes make the man." He seems to firmly believe that people have to get out of their comfort cloths and wear - gasp! - trendy clothes. I don't think he meant to go shopping at Macy's or Nordstrom's. Or maybe he did. Anyway, you know what I mean: modern stylings that will get one noticed. Yes. This goes for shoes and glasses, too.

Isn't smiling at the person the very first step? I'm not a mind reader.

I'm wearing toms, a tank top and slim levis jeans with rayban eye glasses

I think the worst is when I smiled at a group of girls one time at a bar and when I went to approach them I overheard "oh god here he comes."

That's when you walk up, go "Yes ladies, God is here, now be good or I'll turn that wine into water"
There could be something with your body language, or your smile. A non genuine smile is very easy to spot and can be off-putting if your body language contradicts your smile.

Wow. That was incredibly mean of them... You seem like a sweet person; I'm not sure why people would react that way. You're certainly attractive. These people you're approaching, from what I'm gathering, seem quite unfriendly or maybe even snotty.

Despite popular opinion otherwise, women don't care about abs. They care about muscles. If you're strong and have a *bit* of a gut, they don't care. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUl7UqbL3uc Do that, and don't worry about the silly dumbell flies or bicep curls. Then women will be like "WOAH." And you get to walk around with the confidence that you are better than the average person at putting heavy stuff over your head. It's sweet.

That looks incredibly painful, and their legs scare me.

Yes, but that would work best when you are staying in one place together. You both have a reason to be there, and can talk to pass the time. If she looks like she is going somewhere or busy, she may not be as open to conversation.

It may work sometimes on the street, but if she looks away, I wouldn't get offended, it probably has nothing to do with you.

I find it's easiest to share common interests, as it's very natural to talk about our interests. Then we will appear confident and attractive while striking a conversation. Have you tried meeting people that way?

Smiling is wrong, walk around with a scowl all the time and women will be like "MAN HES SUCH A REBEL I WANNA SCREW HIM RIGHT NOW."

As seen above.

I don't think so. I think the first step is finding something in common. My advice might be tainted though; my first reaction to someone that I don't know smiling at me is fear.

Well with me when i would get friend zoned and she really wanted to stay friends with me, I'd ask why she did not like me romantically. She'd shrug and say "just something about you". When I tryed to ask what it was so I could work on getting better, not to try to get her to change her mind, but so I would not make same mistake with someone else. She'd keep saying 'just something about you". Very frustrating when you are trying to work on yourself, done everything you can think of and still don't know what to do.
