So, this guy just asked me out. We're going to see spiderman next week... He somehow remembered me in passing saying I wanted to see it. I actually can't really afford going to a movie right know but screw it I want to go so I will. But I feel so nervous. I have never done this before. I'm pretty confident when it comes to casual things, but actually dating someone... Haven't done that before. Whenever a guy showed interest that seemed serious, I backed away. But this guy is so great. He's a genuinely kind person, which is why I said yes. (Also he is insanely cute...)

But now I'm nervous. So far he seems to like my goofiness, so I guess that is good. He's not arrogant at all, he's very, very sweet, so I shouldn't become intimidated and feel insecure. But what if i can't think of normal things to talk about due to nerves? What if I'm too awkward? I always say weird, random things when things get tense.

I'm really overthinking this, aren't I? I know it's not a big deal at all, but still... Nervous. Any advice?

Oh, and what should I wear?

Cinema? Something casual. What you'd normally wear :)

And, talk during trailers or commercials. Maybe at funny moments during the movie. But that's it. There's not a lot of talking you do during the movie.
Save talking for before and after the film.

I'd avoid personal questions beforehand and keep it casual. And talk more on a personal level after the film.

If you like him, then try to arrange a walk in the park (during day time) and some time when you can talk.

Wear something comfortable and comfortable shoes. I wouldn't wear shoes with a heel or anything to a movie because it is dark in there and you don't want to trip on the stairs or fall down when you're already nervous.

Red is a good color shirt to wear if you like red because it just generally is an attractive color to wear.
It also seems to be true that skirts are attention grabbing, but if you dislike skirts then just wear jeans or whatever you enjoy wearing.

It will be fine and have fun :)

Thank you, but äääh, I know all that... :) My people skills are pretty decent, i know what to do I'm just worried about my nerves getting in the way of that. I just hate being nervous, and if anyone who has experienced this has any advice on how to control your nervousness, that would be great.

Not much you can do for nerves other than to remind yourself HE ASKED YOU out... he already likes you. No need to panic about that... don't over-think things.

I agree. He's already shown he's interested in you, so focus less on trying to impress him and more on enjoying your activity together. Remember, he'll probably be a little nervous too! I think that's a normal dating thing. You'll be fine.

To take pressure off, try and not think of it as a date. May help with the nervousness.

Exactly! :)

Obviously he wants to spend time with you, and he likes you. Don't put so much pressure on yourself! Take a deep breath and tell yourself that you are just going to a movie, and you're going to have a good time.

What if he really likes you? What if he finds your quirkiness and awkwardness cute? What if you have a really good and fun time?

See what I did there? If you can't stop what if thinking or overthinking something, just turn them into positive what ifs.

I always had the tendency to think about all the negative scenarios, their consequences and how to get out of them :o. But thinking positive is actually better, puts me in a better mood and lets me make good situations even better :D

And yeah, as it was said, if he asked you out he already likes you. And you like him. Now you guys will go pn a date. Cliched, but this time actually useful, be yourself. Because that's what attracted you to him in the first place, as you said (and yeah, quirky girls can be very attractive), so just have fun, as you should in a date, and enjoy your time with him. Soon enough, things will start flowing, self-consciousness will go away, and good conversations happen around that time.

Good luck!

The only way you overcome your nervousness is to face your fears.
I was pretty awkward at one point but I had to overcome that and now I can talk effectively to girls. Just that in my opinion I've not found the right person yet. Still doesn't mean that I wouldn't be able to apply myself.
