I really just want a friendship back regardless..I don't care..she told me that, but at the time I had heard it so many times it just felt like an insult...My friend said it would be awkward if she showed up at the party we had last night, but I would have been to stoned to be bothered... Her boy friend said I stalked her, but we had similiar classes...and I just didn't want to be near her when I walked to my class...I did try talk in the groups she was in but the dissolved as I showed up...like it just seemed wrong. All my friends did for me was either get me drunk, or told me they would be my wing man...and try to find me someone. I don't really want a relationship that will just end in me being depressed again, I want my friend back...

Do you have romantic feelings for her?

I wish someone could offer ME that. But unfortunately I do'nt have male friends either, so I don't have this kind of option. You should accept their offer and have them find you a girlfriend. After all, if you are honest with yourself, this is really what you want.

As far as friends with your ex, why do you want that anyway? Clearly, she doesn't appreciate you enough to want to continue relationshp. So why be friends with someone who doesn't like you? That would totally destroy your self esteem.

She told you ... what? ...
that she really wants a friendship back?
or that she doesn't care?
or that you want a friendship back?
or that you don't care?

If she told you she wants a friendship and you want a friendship,
then where's the problem? That's between you & her.
Just keep your eyes open for more opportunities since she's closed that particular door.

So, is your "friend" the same person as "she" in that sentence?
 Do you mean ...
she said that you would have been too stoned to feel bothered if she had showed up? or ...
your friend said that you would have been to stoned to feel bothered if she had showed up? or
you were too stoned to feel bothered by what she said about showing up? or
you were too stoned to feel bothered by what your friend said about her showing up? or
you were too stoned to feel bothered if she had shown up?

What I'm trying to say is pass me the bong already!

I would be too stoned to be bothered by her there, she said we should just be friends when we broke up...looking back I have no idea how I got her to like me in the first place. I have no feeling for her anymore, I'll be lucky enough if I can get her to me my friend again. that's all I really need anyways.
my friend brought her up he told her I would there and it would be awkward...she wanted to go but I think she was joking.

I see. Perhaps it would be best if you left her alone. You may not think you have feelings for her now, but it doesn't mean you won't again in the future if you two were able to become friends again.

I've done the whole "friends with ex" thing, and it can get rather awkward and messy. Best not to tread down that path IMO.

There's no reason to do this to yourself...

I honestly don't think I will, it was just a dopamine induced infatuation..I've had sex with my best friend its not even awkward at all now. Not sure if that's different though.

 Unattached sex is a far cry from having romantic feelings for someone.

Infatuation, you say? Regardless, I don't believe feelings like that ever truly go away. You can dull them with space/distance, but that's about it.

Of course, I'm speaking for myself here. For all I know, you could handle a friendship without becoming infatuated (as you put it) again.

Well I don't see getting any happiness from her even if we were back together, I just miss talking like we used to.

I understand that all too well. It's a hard thing to accept, but things change. Trying to recapture a facet of a dead relationship is tempting but futile.

No, it's realistic. You can't go through life longing for the past. Other people are waiting to meet you and know you the way she did.

So you're saying one can't long for the past and plan for the future at the same time?
I know many people who actually do it very well.
The Future comes first (not chronologically  but in terms of priority),
but that doesn't mean we have to flush our Past down the drain.

Of course we can spend time reminiscing. That's different than trying to recapture a facet of a dead relationship.

So maybe 'longing' was the wrong word. Perhaps I should have used the word 'chasing'.

Hi there guys,
I'm thread hacking cos i searched for "exes and friends" to try to find some help, thoughts advice etc.
What i'm hearing is really sad...here is the question for you (and for the guy who just broke up with me and wants to be friends)...

Q. if you like someone so much as a friend and value them, that you want o stay really close friends with them immediately after: why breakup with them in the first place?!?
A. ........???
