Those of us who know, know that pretty soon the s**ts going to really hit the fan, we can allready see our crazy notions coming to pass in some parts of Europe, and when America falls over the Fiscal Cliff and the shelves of the hyper-market are bare, the attractive Alpha male will be the fella with a spare can of Spam rather than the guy in a fancy suit who can talk about the X factor.

So, are Aspies more or less likely than NTs to be suited to a post apocalypse survivalist world?

Are you guys stocking up on cans of baked beans, water filters and weapons?

Could be your big chance for Love when you suddenly look like the top dog in a world were the more traditional masculine traits of being a provider would count for far more than they do in this present mollycoddled world.

I've been at parties broken into by the cops, NT's tend to PANIC in situations not regulated and planned out.

Your best bet is to prepare, organize, command.

In a situation like that "hot" is not going to be enough.. leadership is where it's at!

Maybe a bit later on as society becomes more structured and survivors group together, but Iam talking about initially, when people are starving and havnt got a clue about how to survive independantly of a nanny state.

Exactly. Right now people think leadership means a big loud moron who bullies everyone, but when basic needs like food and shelter go awry it's going to be a serious shift for some definitions..

I had an idea for a science fiction novel that explored a society in a post-apocalyptic world where the caste of autistic people who could keep the decaying machinery working were so valuable that there was a Geneva-convention-style rule against killing them during tribal warfare. Unfortunately, e-book authors average $500 per year in income, so I don't have time to write and publish it.

I thought he was feral. He grew up to be their leader, and provided some great narrative at the movie's beginning and ending, in spite of the fact he was totally incapable of talking as a kid. Apparently he grows into a well adjusted person.

You need to add one thing. Ruthlessness. If you are not ruthless enough (not even ruthless, just assertive) in this cushy world to achieve what you want, then you will not be able to achieve what you want in a harder world. That said, even if you do have skills that would make you useful, you're likely to be just taken as a slave/worker/partner of someone with the assertiveness/ruthlessness to get things done. This wouldn't necessarily be bad, being a "henchman" of sorts. Even drug cartels hire scientists, you know.

Also, they have to be practical skills? Can you fix cars/machinery? Can you cook? Can you hunt? All your survivalist crap is for total naught if you can't do basic things like that.
